x + 4 – 8x – 1 > 3(x – 2)

I do not know where or when the symbol changes.

solution: x + 4 - 8x -1 > 3 (x - 2)
x + 4 - 8x -1 > 3x - 6
x + 4 -8x +8x > 3x -6 + 8x
x + 4 - 1 > 3x + 8x -6
x + 4 - 1 > 11x -6
x + 4 - 1 > 11x -11x + (-6)
x + 3 > -6
x + 3 - 3 > -6 + (-3)
x > 9
? help please

Hi,
I'm nost sure exactly what your question is but this is how I'd solve it:

x+4-8x-1>3(x-2)

by combining like terms & multiplying thru on the right side you get:
-7x+3>3x-6
then you try to get x on one side of the equation by adding 7x to each side:
-7x+3+7x>3x-6+7x
which would leave you with:
3>10x-6
now, add 6 to each side in order to cancel out the -6 on the right & further isolate x:
3+6>10x-6+6

9>10x
divide each side by 10 to get x by itself this will leave you with:

9/10>x or x<9/10 or x<0.9

Hope this helps

P.S Don't believe anybody that tells you that the answer is anything other than x<9/10 because they're wrong.

x + 4 - 8x -1 > 3 (x - 2)
x + 4 - 8x - 1 > 3x - 6 (expand the equation)
x + 4 - 1 > 3x + 8x - 6 (switch the 8x to the RHS)
x + 3 > 11x - 6 (subtract on the LHS and add on the RHS)
x - 11x > -6 - 3 (put the unknown on one side and integers on the other)
-10x > -9 (solve it)
x < 9/10 (final answer with the sign turned because you divide with negative number)

In step 6 you subtracted 11x only from the right side.
Maybe you meant to subtract the x from the left.
So you have from that step,

x + 4 - 1 - x > 11x - x - 6
3 > 10x - 6
9 > 10x
x < 9/10

x+4 - 8x - 1>3(x - 2)
+8x +8x
x+4 - 1>3(x - 2) +8x
x+4 - 1>3 times 2x +8x
x+4 - 1>3 times 10x
+1 +1
x+4>4 times 10x
-4 -4
x>10
