I'm afraid the zoysia will choke out the tomato plants. I just want to plant five or six plants. How much room will I need in a raised bed? If a raised bed is the best choice, how do build a bed to keep the bed safe from the zoysia?

Well I plant lots of baby trees, and I was curious myself on that. So I wrote the Zoysia company, and they wrote back saying to order there 6 inch underground perimeter, that is for if you dont want it to grow in certain areas, like sidewalks, neighbors yards, for plants that cant fend for themselves until they are well established and so on. I have not tried it yet, only for the simple fact that I should be recieving my plugs here in the next couple days. But I will be using it for the plants that are a few years old planted and for my future plants in the ground. I hope I helped.

Tomatoes are really tough plants. Don't bother with a 'raised bed'. It's more important that the tomato plants are in full sun and kept free of disease and fungus.....like my grandmother used to say, "tomato plants are like poor people, the more you ignore them, the more you get"....And if you think about it, it's true. Before you know it, you'll have a revolution. Power to the people!!!! (and before you all go crazy, I'm a poor person and am stronger for the fact....think about it)

You could use big pots, or bags.
