The first day I got my first car (that was a few days after i got my licence) I took the day off school and just drove, I must have put close to 500km on my car that day, just driving. It was a 1987 Plymouth Caravelle. When I got my licence I was just about 18 (money issues, I had to pay for everything, and when putting youself through school and trying to survive, money is short).
I got my learners licence when I was 14, and I drove with my father all day, A tank of gas in a 1996 Voyager. I don't even know how far I went.

Before I got my license, I learned to drive in a field.I had a 1953 Chevrolet Station wagon.I was about 13 years old.We had 30 acres of open fields.I got my permit at the age of 17 because that was the age for our state (New Jersey).I could not wait to get my permit. It drove me crazy. On my 17th Birthday, I was waiting at the door of the DMV to open. But i still could not drive just yet.( at least not on the roads)I still had to take my drivers' test (written) and that was about two months away. This was in March and still was trying to be patient.Once I passed the written test, I then had to wait for another couple of months to take the road test.I could now drive , but only with another driver that had a valid license.I finally got to take the road test in May and passed.I was ever so happy because I already got my car ready with insurance and registration.I worked hard to save the money for everything outside the car in which ny father bought me for my Birthday. It was an old 1952 Chevrolet 6 cylinder and standard shift transmission. But I was very happy and proud.I am 55 years old now and have been driving professionally both tractor/trailer and Charter Bus for 38 years now.
