Or does the charge from the new currents from each start up hurt the circuits or something?

The reason for me asking is that one of my roomates keeps turning it off when I'm not around. I keep asking everyone not to turn off my computer. Any suggestions on how to prevent them from turning it off?

Computers will only go on and off so many times before it will not come on again, which is alot of times. Also, when you continuously turn it on and off it is having to strain the parts to come on, go off, ect. If it is left on steady, and hardly ever turned off, it runs alot smoother.

If your not using it, shut it down. Don't waste the electricity. You could hurt it by not using the recommended shut down procedure. Don't push the power button to turn it off.

No. From the heating up and cooling down, the parts take far more strain - I don't shot down my system then wait and start up again, I reboot - far less wear and tear on the hardware involved.

It's more than fine. It's recommended. Your power supply handles the charges. No need to worry.

We never turn ours off, except for thunderstorms or if we go out of town for a few days.
