I'm a new teacher and would like to find a part time job for the summer. Any ideas?

Well, there's always the typical camp counseling/specialist jobs. Some will even give you a slight raise because you're certified. The trick is to look around for a camp in your specialty and that caters to a particular interest group. You also get the advantage of being outside all summer (which I know I personally enjoy). Other variations include tutoring and working in your school system's summer school. This can also be nice because usually there is a gap of a few weeks in-between the end of the camp and the start of school if you wanted to take a vacation.

Other than that, seasonal positions are decent. I worked for a couple of years at the local amusement park (although it didn't pay very well). You might also look into something like lifeguarding, scooping ice cream, or working at a local tourist trap. Sometimes the local parks and rec needs extra people to help out in their park programs. State and National parks need these people too.

In short, just use your creativity, and know what your local community has to offer in the summertime. Then ask about jobs in those particular areas.

There are always summer programs that need extra help, but in all honesty they tend to give you the shaft on financial compensation.

One thing you can do is offer private tutoring, this generally results in a healthy (often tax free) paycheck.

Alot of the exam prep companies also need teachers and tutors for their summer programs.

Tutoring! Lifeguard? Develop your own summer reading program and enroll the kiddos for a price. Teaching something on a cruise ship (karate, aerobics, rock climbing).

Try a department stores they seem to be a popular job for teachers. Also you may consider working for a tutoring company in your area or starting your own tutoring business.

If you're looking to fill your days, enhancing your own education and training would be the wisest use of your summer time off.

OTOH, if money is your motivation, you should consider becoming active in movements to improve teachers' salaries.
