Unless you have a separate video card, you are always going to have shared memory. It is shared. You can share up to 256MB. Unless, you are talking about laptop computers.

Yes it is shared, if it says its a 128MB card then it has 64 onboard and 64 is shared, if it says 256MB then 128 is onboard dedicated and 128 is shared.

The shared memory is automatically allocated so its not wasted when programs need it.
