Okay we have to write a persuasive essay on why we should have a healthier school lunch. I am clueless on how to do it. We have to write 4 reasons and an example with each one, including an explanation for the example. And then we have to write a reason on why the person I am reading this to (who dosen't agree with me) is wrong. Can anybody give me a heads up or a way to stary off? My proposal and position are "I chose to write about a healthier school lunch, because I feel we should have a healthier school lunch."

I need at least 4 reasons why, and example with the reasons, and an explanation of the examples. I also need a reason why the person I am reading this too is wrong, along with A reason, an example, and an explanation for this example. Can somebody please freaking help me?!

We should have healthier school lunches because
1. obesity rates are too high in kids
2. healthy people think more clearly than unhealthy people
3. some people dont like unhealthy school lunches, so more people would buy school lunches to get more money for the school.
4. people who eat healthy lunches are healthier people, and they get sick less often

First off, what is your audience? They don't agree with you, yes... but are they the principal? The parents? The kids?

Your essay should be tailored with reasons that should convince the group you are talking to. I'll guess you are trying to convince another high schooler that you should have a healthier school lunch. In that case....

1. It may actually be edible if you make the cafeteria workers try harder.
2. If they are making it in-house and do not have to pay for brand-name foods (Pizza Hut days, etc.) the food should be cheaper.
3. Your parents will be more likely to fork over lunch money if they know it is going to a good meal.
4. Establishing good eating habits now will save your wasteline later.

Hmmm... some more.....

* Childhood diabetes is increasing as children's obesity rate increased about 60% in the last 5 years.
* Healthier food generally tastes better.
* Parents will show support, especially if there is no extra cost to them.
* Other schools with healthy lunch programs have earned national attention - may cause the state to grant more money to the school.
* 2 out of every 3 American adults are now overweight... stopping the problem now is the best alternative.
* Billions of taxpayer dollars go to support obesity related diseases: heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney failure (under diabetes), hypertension, high cholesterol... and the list goes on.
* More and more insurance companies are supplying incentives for people to get healthy and loose weight... start the habit now.
* Proper dietary information is missing from most Americans' educations.
* Portion sizes have tripled in the last 30 years - portion control is the #1 cause of skinny people. This is a good educational cause.

Hmmm.... I'm sure you can think of more! And of course, research and support the four reasons you choose to talk about.

OK, you better sit down for this one. All you need to do is get some books from the health food store about what the "food companies" are putting in our food. You are going to be so shocked.
Let's take something simple, like oreo cookies. The food companies make these with the soul purpose of being ADDICTIVE. You wouldn't believe the amount of sugar that is getting into our food. Sugar is poison..literally.
I have been seeing a Certified Nutritional Therapist because of my ill health. I have eliminated as much sugar as I possibly can from my diet. I had breast cancer in 1990. Yeah, praise the Lord I'm still here. I also became a diabetic in 1992.
In 2003 my doc put me on insulin and I put on another 85 pounds I didn't eat to get. My sister started seeing a doc a year ago and she was taking supplements and doing a diet and lost alot (80#'s) then it just stopped. So we did some research and then we went to the CNT and started taking what she recommended and I've lost 20 lbs just since Jan.
Sugar is killing us. I was a substitute teacher all last year and I couldn't believe what they are feeding our children in the name of "convenience" Yes they offer salad fixings and fresh fruit/veg but the kids are not making those selections because of what they are already addicted to.
Ok, the white sugar in the bag at the grocery store,,,not a natural product at all...it's been bleached. The alternative, splenda? also a chlorinated product.
55% of all americans are overweight with an even greater number climbing into obesity..it can all be blamed on SUGAR.
When you see a child/teen that is really heavy, you think wow that person is p-i-g, right?...Not necessarily true at all....What their body is really telling you is that their body is no longer "handling" what they are eating. The are so full of toxicity because of all the chemicals that's in everything people are eating.,,,sugar. fruitose, dextrose, maltose, sucrose...anything with "ose" and your eating sugar.
Go to the store and find any boxed product you want and write down what's in it...on a piece of paper list the ingredients and on the other side of the paper list the "natural" ingredients. When you're done you won't be buying anything out of a box anymore.
Also go to the library and look up Pottenger's Cats. This doctor did this study and it showed the cats' that got prepped diet got sick, died, had dental and cranial damage (even into future litters) and the cats that got a "natural" diet, thrived and had "good" babies compared to the diseased and malnourished cats...interesting, huh?

Just sit down an do dot points of the obvious reasons why a healthier lunch is a better option and expand from there.
The easy ones of course are that statistic (and you should back this up with research on the net) prove that children with healthy food intake are more productive and can concentrate better in class.
Obesity is not just a problem in your state but a National problem with childhood obesity at an all time high (again with the research)
Self worth is another point as kids who are fat have generally problems with self esteem due to the bullying by other kids and if the food is not available to them then they have no option other than to eat healthier.

Without knowing what the other persons comeback is it is hard to put them down. You just have to know your facts and if they state that it is everyones right to choose what they eat or something similar then you just have to have some standard answers in your head to combat that.

Your proposal and your position are too similar, which is just the beginning. To be blunt, nobody who's going to read your essay cares about your feelings. This is supposed to be a part of your thesis, so you should try something else. A good way to word this would be something like this:

"I chose to write about a healthier school lunch because I feel that the current school lunches provide inadequate nutrition."

Reasons:

1. Obesity
2. Vitamins
3. Development during adolescence.
4. Taste
5. (Extra-good suggestion): Economic viability/practicality.

Hope this helps. :-)

Talk about the rise in childhood obesity in America and the impact tha school lunches have on a child's diet.

Talk about the calories found in the foods and then explain what a healthy amount would be and how the school does not follow this'
Talk about the lack of healthy choices in the cafeteria and how children how cafeterias can possitively/negatively impact a child's daily intake of healthy foods

Well first, you need to come up with a better reason: your reason basically just repeats the question.

Some examples: to teach good eating habits for the future, to provide proper nutrition, etc.

Next you have to look at these reasons from another point of view and address any counter points that that person might have.

Hope this helps a little.

1. So that kids won't get overweight and be teased about being overweight
2. Prevention of acne (less oil in foods)
3. Following the Food Guide Pyramid
4. Eating healthier foods means that you have a less likely chance of getting osteoporosis (condition in which the bones are weak, brittle, can break easily. Can be prevented through a healthy diet and regular exercise)

immunity - veges/fruits: high in Vit C to improve your immune system. wont fall sick so easily
cost - most healthy food are more affordable eg, tofu
balanced diet - most of the time we consume lotsa meats and snacks/fried foods. need a healthy diet to balance our system and flush the toxins out.
image - healthier alternatives tend to give u a glow..physically and mentally. once u know u are eating healthy, the brain doesnt get too lax and u wont get fat so easily and wont hate urself so much when u subconsciously compare urself with others(that is if you do compare most of the time)
