heres the list: speed velocity, mass, weight, work, torque and volume which ones are scalar and which ones are vectors

vector: velocity, work, torque
scalar: speed, mass, weight, volume

vector has both magnitude AND direction
scalar just has magnitude

velocity and torque are vectors whereas speed, mass, weight, work and volume are scalars. you can express velocity and torque with vectors; they have directions as you would guess otherwise they would not make sense. however, on the other hand, the others are just quantities. the first ones are actually expressed in terms of direction and magnitude no matter what; however, during middle school velocity and speed are used interchangeably.

speed is scalar, while velocity is a vector quantity.

Why?

Speed is just the average of how fast you are going, it doesn't matter what direction.

Once you move into velocity, you are talking about the direction of movement, so it is a vector quantity
