Usually not. There's a lot of factors that lead to a high birth weight, not just the mother's diet. And just so you know, eating unhealthy foods *does not* always lead to gestational diabetes. Even women who eat healthy the whole time can end up with gestational diabetes. I can honestly say that my diet while pregnant wasn't great (I craved sweets *all* the time!), and my son came out only 7 pounds, 4.5 ounces, healthy, and has continued to be so in addition to being a good weight.

Now, as for the eating all that junk food affecting the mother's weight, you better believe it will!

My mom craved salty foods when she was pregnant and ate a lot of chips. All three of her kids turned out healthy (normal weight-not too skinny, not fat). I think it's the example you present to your child that can effect their future weight. My mom set healthy eating examples to us from a young age. If your child always sees you eating McDonalds or fatty foods that's probably what they're going to end up eating. Just make sure you have lots of healthy foods around the house when your baby starts to eat and not a lot of fatty foods. Set a good example and your children will follow your lead.

If a mother is predisposed to gestational diabetes, then this type of diet can adversely effect her baby.

not eating healthy while pregnant can cause gestational diabetes...which most times causes the babies to be bigger than normal babies
Hope this helps!

you can get gestational diabetes if you don't eat right also and that can make you have a big baby
