i currently have two blood parrot cichlids and they are extremely affectionate and playful with me. I want to set up a new 55 gallon freshwater environment with more aggressive fish. I also would like it if they were playful, (coming to the surface for food or following you around the room). any suggestions? my ideal tank would be 2 very aggressive fish paired off with 2 other aggressive fish that are fun to own and wouldnt kill each other. has anyone had any success in running a tank like this?

Oscars become very tame and are very agressive.
A friend of mine has one she can pet, but it bites her at feeding time.
VERY AGRESSIVE
Hers won't allow even another Oscar in the tank (He ate a shark bigger than him. The shark was head first in his mouth with the tail hanging out and actually fought my friend before he allowed her to take it away), but maybe if you get a male and female, and let them grow up together, they will be OK. I'm not sure about that though.
Good luck

If I were you, I would try to set up the new 55 Gallon tank first. Introducing new fish into a new setup is sometimes disasterous. I would be careful, as more aggressive cichlids, such as Oscars, are sometimes very aggressive around other cichlids. Make sure all of your fish are the same size, as smaller fish will get picked on. Lastly, keep in mind that groups of two are just asking for a fight. Even groups of four (or another even number) clown loaches will sometimes pair off into different groups. Try to have an odd number of one species. You might want to try a non-aggressive tank, as it is more fun to watch. I have a 55 Gallon tank with one blood parrot cichlid, and a smaller african cichlid. It has a whole bunch of other fish, including clown loaches and Tinfoil Barbs. By getting two groups of two aggressive fish, you are just begging for a fight. If you can pull it off, however, don't get any non-aggressive fish, as they will get eaten quickly. Good Luck!

Bettas are fun fish, they even learn to react to your presence. Also you can play with them using a bright colored inkpen, they will case it as you move it around the outside of the tank. I don't think it would be a god idea to put your betta in with the cichlids.

Oscars are a good suggestion, but two of them will out grow a 55 in less than a year if they are properly cared for.

Barbs. Tiger barbs, rosy barbs, green barbs, they're a variety.
They'll do well in a spacious tank in a school of 5 or more.
Quite active and aggressive.

I would get African cichlids.Maybe an auratus or kenyi but do some research first to check on what combinations you can have. With auratus if you have a male you need several females with it and no other males as they will fight till one is dead.

at the starting up i opt to take situation with what Alee C has printed. She writes in the first sentence that her kitten replaced into very afraid of being in new ecosystem and then is going on to point putting rigidity between his eyes, tapping his nostril AND spraying him with water. Now I ask you're any of those sorts of torture going to do something to make a cat experience a lot less scared? I could imagine it replaced right into a relief to that detrimental kitten to be "placed someplace he doesn't get excitement from very a lot" faraway from his "proprietor". How can a cat understand what he's doing incorrect, he's a cat no longer a logician! All he's regularly occurring with of is he's being damage with assistance from the single individual he could be waiting to believe. and then she says "see if that works".. oh so unwell manage the kitten on the off danger it facilitates eh? and then the spectacular suggestion on the top "if no longer, wait somewhat more advantageous to verify if he grows out of it." So profound! in truth he remains a touch one, he will chunk you, he's not aggressive he has those beautiful new teeth to attempt out and use and he doesn't be conscious of that he shouldn't chunk you. do not shout at him or hit him or moist him, you'll in person-friendly words make him afraid of you. somewhat attempt to prevent the situations the position he bites you, do not play with him with bare palms, do not do the tummy rubbing the position he closes his paws round you and kicks and bites. do not enable him do something that in spite of if beautiful in a kitten doesn't be so beautiful in a grown up cat. even as he bites you assert kindly yet firmly NO and withdraw your hand, or placed him gently down and walk away. verify he has lots of toys both mouse length and larger so he has something to grip and kick at, also a scratching post. Play with a dangly toy, even run somewhat dragging it behind you. even as he's all performed out and drained and prepared for a snooze %. him up and cuddle him and praise him with assistance from call if he doesn't chunk you. If he does, placed him down again and walk away. Cats are smart and they quickly study yet you are able to benefit a lot more advantageous with assistance from kindness than punishment. 10 weeks is too quickly to flow out, wait till he's neutered as well as totally vaccinated to enable him have ideal freedom, meanwhile take him out into your own backyard both wearing or heavily supervising him. it really is beautiful having a sparkling kitten, get excitement from it even as it lasts because all too quickly he will be a grown up cat with kittenhood behind him.
