Sleeping on your left side will increase the amount of blood and nutrients that reach your baby through the placenta. It's the vena cava vein that gets compressed when you lay in other positions, the worst being on your back.

There's a lot of stuff going around about how pregnant women shouldn't lay on a certain side, or on their stomach, or on their back. The truth is you can lay on any side that is comfortable, and that baby will be completely fine. You don't stay in one position all night while you're sleeping, and so unless you're strapped down in one spot (which is what would cause problems), you can lay any way you want. Usually placing a pillow between your legs and on the side of your stomach because it'll keep your hips aligned (the one between your knees), and support the weight of the baby (the one under your stomach).

I am 32 weeks pg with #4 and find lying on my side most comfortable. I try to sleep on the left as much as possible but there is no real harm in sleeping on your right side and it is nice to switch it up a bit. Lying on your side with your knees bent is likely to be the most comfortable position as your pregnancy progresses. It also makes your heart's job easier because it keeps the baby's weight from applying pressure to the large blood vessels that carry blood to and from your heart and your feet and legs. Sleeping on your left side is the best. Because your liver is on the right side of your abdomen, lying on your left side helps keep the uterus off that large organ. Lying on your left side also optimizes blood flow to the placenta and, therefore, your baby.

Good luck,
HP

left side-lying position (with the top leg forward) puts the weight of the fetus on the bed and not on the mother. it also allows good circulation in the lower extremities.

Put a pillow between your knees to relieve the pressure on your back..and alternate sides so your legs don't go numb.

Your left side is ideal not only because it improves blood circulation but also because it aides in digestion of food especially during pregnancy.

lay on your left side because if you lay on your back then the baby lay on a main artery and does not get good circulation

I think its lying on your left due to the blood circulation... you can check out www.babycenter.com...

I don't think it's bad thing to lay on your side-you can't very well lay on your stomache, now, can you? And laying on your back is VERY uncomfortable. It was for me, anyway!!!

Lie on your right for better digestion and on your left for better circulation.
