I haven't been able to sleep in 6 weeks and am relying on sleeping pills to get a solid nights sleep. Does anyone know of any effective home tricks to help.

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Hello, just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, is actually very very beneficial for your health, and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! I was shocked at the effectiveness in putting me to sleep. If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. I have been taking it for years and it’s truly been a blessing. And it has more antioxidant effects than Vitamin C and Vitamin E combined. You must take the sublingual kind from GNC otherwise it might not work because of quality and potency, should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening. Must try the GNC brand at your local mall.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity

Hard to give specific advise without knowing your sleeping patterns. Do you fall asleep easily but wake up a few hours later and have difficulties falling back asleep? Or do you have problems initially falling asleep?

If you wake up in the middle of the night with your mind racing about things you need to do, try this: Just before going to bed, write a list of things that you need to get done the following day.

Clean your room very well, making sure to rid it of dust. A dusty room full of dust mites can cause sleep problems.

Hide you alarm clock so you cannot see it from your bed.

Before going to bed, stop all work and walk away from the computer. Allow your mind time to wind down.

Try to get to bed at the same hour each night.

Kate, do you exercise at all? I had problems for many years... I either could not fall asleep or I would wake up in the midle of the night... when I started exercising I started sleeping thru the night like a bear. Also, the cause could be mentally people who suffer from deppression/anxiety have sleeping problems too.Have you been to a doctor?I wish you well.Take care.

Eating healthy and proper exercise will help manage your sleep patterns in general. You can also try kava kava, melotonin (available at a health food store) or a listening to a sleep cd in headphones when you lay down to sleep.

Masturbation before sleep is probably the best and cheapest remedy though, seriously.

Melatonin, 3 mg. capsule at bedtime works like a charm for me.

Lifestyle: avoid caffeine after 4:00 p.m.

If you have recently quit smoking or started taking wellbutrin it is a good idea to cut back on caffeine intake by 50%.

Chamoille tea is great for just before bedtime.

No naps during the day. Sleep mask from pharmacy if must sleep during daytime (night shift worker). Enough exercise during day so will be tired at night. Starchy foods or tryptophan containing foods at bedtime (ie spaghetti, macaroni, potato chips, ice cream, turkey sandwich). Heated water beds are nice...or you could try a sleep number bed or similar...so not turning and tossing so much at night.

couple of things I do;which may or may not work for you. Tryptophan, found in tuna, turkey and warm milk make me sleepy. A tuna sandwich puts me out like a light. A not so much home remedy for me when I don't have nor want tuna is I take benadryl.
