I am a CNA and wil like to know if working on a Per Diem basis is right for me. I have 2 kids and need to start working and the job I just found is working in a nursing home as a Per Diem CNA( certified nurse assistant) I really need to work to catch up on some old bills. What are the positive and negative sides of a Per Diem job?

Working on Per Diem will not effect your salary. Per diem, or "per day," is a Latin phrase meaning specific amount of money an organization allows an individual to spend per day. Typically, though not exclusively, this is to cover travel and subsistence expenses.

When working per diem or prn you will usually only work when they call you. You typically make more per hour, but have no benefits (ins, pto, sick). It is a good way to supplement income, but not to rely on it as your only income.

It is PRN, as needed. Why would a nsg home want a CNA PRN? Every nsg home I've seen is hurting for full time CNA's

I believe that is Latin for 'per day', as in paid by the day....that's all I know, sorry.
