I went through this in junior high school, only they called me "oreo". (lol) I continued to be true to myself and by high school everyone had accepted me for who I was. I had black freinds, white freinds and my best freind was Filipino. And we were all college bound. So don't sweat the morons. The school years are all about testing the strength of your convictions and determining who you'll be in life. If ebonics doesn't feel natural then don't fake it. Stay true to yourself even if it hurts. It sounds like you're already leaps and bounds ahead of the "flock".

You are not acting "white". All of that is a state of mind, and those who tell you you are acting white are not as educated as they think. When you think about all that our people had to go through to be able to have the opportunity to choose the way we want to live our life, it's a shame that there are some of our own who want to keep us back by claiming there are a certain set of criteria to fulfill before we can be really considered black.

I've been through some similar events. I'm black, and in college, so I'm pretty much expected to be a rapper of some sort, a hustler, a pimp of some sort, or some type of thug. Though because I'm quiet, and keep more to myself, and HATE to dance, some people don't even pay me a glance. I don't care though because I'm not changing the way I am to be something socially "acceptable". Either they respect me or they hop off.

When I was younger as well, I was quiet, had glasses, sheltered, and smart. I had plenty of friends and what not, but there always were those who said I wasn't "black" enough. I would speak properly, with as much slang as a normal young person would. Thing is once I hit high school I changed my dress, my style and everything, but still kept true to my quiet, smart self. I still had people question my identity, even online because I don't talk "lyke diz". I just learned to find my place in everything and to move from there. I just had to define myself instead of letting everybody define me.

Despite all of that don't change yourself. The people who want to allow their lives to revolve around the things that make people "black" can do just that. Once they find that a lot of these things are actually white owned and that the black people who really care to make changes for the good of our people are not the ones who "keep s*** real", then they will learn. Until then, I still say it loud I'm black and I'm proud. I'm still going to strive to be a positive representative of our race, which is not the same as selling out. I care about my people and I try to educate them about the opportunities life has to offer them. And to you just be yourself, theres nothing wrong with you or the way you live your life. The most important thing to follow is to give gratitude to God, and to remember where you're from and where you want to go! Best wishes to you!

That's not true , do what you want to you do not have to follow any stereotypes , besides speaking Ebonics (let's be real) is not going to land you a career nor secure your future ) unless you want to do stand up comedy or rap lol .You don't strike me as someone who wants or is trying to do neither but i can be wrong .
If you 'r friends can not understand you rather stand out then blend in Forget about them get new friends

I for one don't know why people catagorize themselves like that. I am just like you, exept for the clothes. Music, clothes and vocab should not define you. I am an open free spirited person. People are drawn to me because of my uniqueness. The people around you are inside a box, afraid to venture out. everyone loves to criticize the different one in the group. Be comfortable in your own skin. Do whatcha like. Who said white people were so perfect or so bad? I guess the people around you are having a inferiority issue with white people. Don't get yourself caught up in other people's issues.

People say I am a white girl inside a black girls body, but I have more black friends then white friends. I just like more white people, but its not like I wear american eagle or anything like that. I just talk proper. But I'm ok with it. I hang out with people of every race. literally. Don't mind it, be you.

Baby, you're just bein' yourself! Just as long as you're not racist against other people of our race, you're cool with me and some other Black folks! (Plus, I kinda like it when some Black females talk so proper that it seems like they're talking like a White girl. I find that REALLY attractive! It just shows that you're educated and that many of your Black peers are just jealous of you because you're well-educated! They're the dumb@$$es!)

Plus, the majority of the time when I'm at school or work, I speak VERY properly myself; I speak so properly that some people think that I grew up around a lot of White people! I believe that some people are jealous of me because I'm well-educated, too!

Girl, people are just jealous of you and wish somebody could say good things to them. I've been referred to that but not in the same terms. I've always made good grades, got along with all teachers, and always wore clothes that never revealed my body shape. I used to feel bad, and it bothered me. My "friends" would make fun of me and were two-faced.

However, now, I'm older, and have made decisions on my own. The same "friends" who talked about me are doing absolutely nothing for themselves and are barely making it. I just say keep being the person you are and you will be so successful....God bless...

Why don't you just be yourself, instead of trying to imitate a bunch of loosers? If you want to make anything of yourself, you need to speak proper English, and dress like a normal person.

The other fools can speak "ebonics", and dress like clowns. When they are unable to get a decent job, they can cry racism, and how they are discriminated against.

You make your bed, and you sleep in it.

Acting "white" or acting "black" is nonsense. I've seen both white, black, and whatever other colors of people speak and act properly. Likewise, I've seen both white, black, and whatever other colors of people speak and act poorly.

It is good that it does not affect you. I tip my hat to you for speaking properly, too--more people should make such an effort.
