My mom wants to put me on the pill cause of my acne(I have pretty bad acne). And I'm 14, but is it REALLY that necessary to have one before being put on the pill? And can they check if your hymen's torn? Cause I have no clue if mine is or not. And if it is, then my mom might think I'm having sex since I'm always at my boyfriend's house and he's almost 17(although I'm almost 15).

Firstly, do not be worried about the pap smear. It is a test that will take litteraly 2 minutes if even, and it's so simple, chances are you will not even feel anything.

It is necessary to have one before going on the pill, like any other drug, you need to know your present condition before taking new medication into your body.

I don't believe they can/will "check" for your hymen. However, that shouldn't be something to worry about. Your mother cannot ask your doctor: "Oh, by the way, is her hymen there?", and even if she could I doubt she would. Also, I'm pretty sure your virginity is confidential. The doctor MAY ask if you're sexually active in front of your mother, but I doubt it, and they aren't supposed to anyways.

Lastly, you say your mother knows that you're always at your boyfriends house.... has it ever occured to you that maybe a partial reason for her wanting you to go on the pill is for precautionary measures (pregnancy) in addition to your acne?? I dunno, sometimes parents think more than they say...I'm not trying to imply that you and your bf and doing anything, or moreover, that anything would be wrong with that if you were....I'm just saying...it's something to think about...
Good luck and god bless.... you've got nothing to worry about regarding the test.

Every single person that answered this question and said that a 14 yr old girl needs a pap smear to get birth control is 100% WRONG! A 14 yr old does NOT need a pap smear unless she has been sexually active for 3 yrs and could have cervical cancer or HPV (an STD that leads to cervical cancer).

The medical guidelines state that you "should" get a pap smear when you are 21, or 3 years after you have become sexually active, whichever is earliest. This means that if a girl starts having sex at 15, she needs to get a pap smear at 18. Also, you need to remember what a pap smear is. A pap smear is only a test for HPV, which is a STD that leads to cervical cancer in some cases, and the pap smear can 'usually' detect cancerous changes. A pelvic exam is different....it basically involves the doctor (or nurse practitioner) inserting a finger inside of your vagina and feeling around for abnormalities. A pap smear is a scraping of your cervix.

Also, you need to know that a pap smear is NOT a requirement for birth control. I feel that you cannot be forced to do anything, and it is your choice as to whether or not you get a pap. If your current doctor is pressuring you, I'd say that is highly unethical, and you need to immediately find a new doctor. You can even get birth control from Planned Parenthood for a cheaper price than your normal doctor. You will be asked questions about your medical history, and then given a prescription if you are healthy enough to take birth control.

Overall, I highly suggest that you discuss this issue again with your mother. Even if the doctor does a pelvic exam, there is no way at all for him to determine if you are sexually active (a broken hymen is not evidence of sexually activity, since it can break for a million different reasons, and the doctor can explain that to you in more detail). Plus, the doctor is not allowed to tell your mother if you are sexually active or not. That is illegal, and could result in a big legal hassle for the doctor. FInally, I wanted to note that in my experience it is not normal for a 14 yr old to get a pap, so I think you should discuss this with your doctor (or new doctor/planned parenthood) and make an intelligent decision. A lot of young women start birth control as young as 12 or 14 yrs old for acne/menstrual cramps/etc, and they don't get paps. Discuss this with your doctor and mother, and make informed decisions together regarding your health. I've attached sources to provide you some information about paps.

first of all your mom doesn't have to know if you are a virgin or not because of privacy laws, just don't have her go in the room with you when your talking to the doctor, and yes they will be able to tell if your hymen is torn. It is not always broke because of sex though, maybe something you can ask the doctor. I think it is necessary to get a pap, it's not that bad at all. Also if you don't want to be on the pill, just go to the dermatologist and get an acne prescription.

You must have a pap smear before receiving birth control pills. Here is a way to get through it. First of all, if you have a male doctor, ask that a female nurse be present. Relaxing your body is the key. Put trust in what is about to happen. The doctor will describe to you when you will feel pressure. And that is all you will feel: Pressure. There is no pain involved. As for a torn hymen, I don't think that they are looking for that. They are more interested in your health than your sexual activity. You will be fine. Welcome to womanhood. It's a nice place to be.

Yes, it is necessary to have pap smear before being put on any form of birth control. Having a pap smear will allow the doctor to tell if there are any abnormal things going on in your body. (Pap smears can detect cancer and if detect early can be very beneficial.) During the course of a pap smear the doctor will be able to tell if your hymen is torn, however if you don't want your mom in the room she doesn't have to be, and the doctor is not allowed to share any private information with your mother unless you allow him/her to do so, doctor - patient confidentiality.

YEs, I believe that it is required to have a pelvic exam *AKA pap smear* when getting put on birth control. Don't worry. It's painless and the only thing is you feel kind of exposed, but it does very quickly. And your hymen can get torn from playing sports, exercise and tampons. It doesn't necessarily mean that you're having sex, and I'm sure that your mom knows that.

ok, its humorous you asked this because of the fact many women get at a loss for words. Many docs won't use the speculum while you're a virgin yet you employ tampons so technically, thats ok. it is going to stretch a sprint yet woman u are unlikely to die. It hurts in basic terms a tiny bit yet its greater of a uncomfortable feeling no longer a soreness. in case you employ tampons, then u are o.k.. while i became a virgin i used tampons to boot on account that pad **** sounds like a matress between your legs lol. yet dont be afraid they'll use a lubricant. the final concern to do is loosen up. Breathe and don't annoying up. which will harm in case you do. loosen up, confer with the physician, count quantity the ceiling tiles after which you in all risk will bleed a sprint, yet you would be wonderful honey.

They wont give you a pap smear unless you have had sex. They wont do it if they think you are a virgin.
And sorry to state the obvious but if you are having sex, YOU ARE TOO YOUNG. You are forteen, no matter how mentally mature you think you are, you are physically a child. Even with the pill AND condoms you could get pregnant. Your body is not finished growing and a pregnancy or abortion at your age could kill you. If your boyfriend loves you he will wiat until you are older.
And Im not an old fuddy duddy Im only twenty.

Your doctor is not supposed to tell your mother that stuff. Quit doing it. You are not making love, you are just making immature decisions that can get you into such a bad situation. Having sex is just not right. It is beautiful for a married couple.
