You have to use something like Trillian that can be configured to save conversations.

If you are using the latest AIM Triton, it should be logging your IM's(that is of course if you have that option set.) its in My Documents folder in the AimLogger folder.
if you dont have the latest aim you should download it !

It never goes away. If you have trition, then no.
