The other answers were alright, some had almost the right answer. Here it is, Shawn was given that nickname early in his WWF career by Curt Hennig(Mr. Perfect) because he was SO popular with the young ladies as part of the Rockers, when he split with tag team partner Marty Jennety, he became the character he is today. Origionally his entrance music was sung by Sensational Sherry (Martel) his manager/valet/lady friend but after he ditched her, he redid the music, but left the words pretty much the same. Over the years the fans and Michaels shortened the Heartbreak Kid to HBK.

Heart Break Kid when Michaels was coming up in the business because Shawn Michaels had all the girls. It pretty much means that he was a playboy.

hbk means heartbreak kid... mr perfect curt hennig gave him this nickname back in 1992, commenting on the effect that shawn had on the female fan base... hope that answers ur question :)
