After the 17th week women are advised to not sleep flat on their back.
Any other position is fine. Even sleeping on your stomach, although in a couple of months it will probably be uncomfortable for you
The best side to sleep on is your left side

Every book about pregnancy that I have read says that pregnant women should sleep on their left side in order to improve the flow of blood and nutrients to the placenta.
When I was 2 months pregnant I found it easier to sleep on my left side but with lots of pillows on my back, it helped with the heartburn and nausea. Good luck!!

You aren't supposed to sleep on your belly. The best position is on your left side (I've heard that this helps the blood flow through your body easier). They say that you aren't supposed to sleep on your back but when I was pregnant the only position I could get to sleep in was on my back. Which is weird because I normally hate sleeping on my back. Anyway, I slept on my back a lot and my delivery was perfectly normal and my daughter was a happy healthy 6 lbs. 9 oz.

When you get to big you won't be able to sleep on your stomach. But until your stomach gets big, sleeping on your stomach is OK.
Your not suppose to sleep on your back when you start to get big because it puts pressure on all your organs and your back. It can give you problems after the baby comes. I made that mistake. I slept on my back with my first and it also caused me to have a lot of heart burn.
Doctors say the best position is on your side.
Hope this has helped.

everyone will tell you to sleep on your side preferably your left
when you get to the last trimester - i would tell you to sleep any way you can, sleep on your head if necessary - as no position will be comfortable by then. Not that it matters cos by then you will be up every 10 minutes to pee anyway

Just don't sleep on your belly. Sides and back are fine. I was a belly sleeper and it took me quite a while to get use to sleeping in different positions. I didn't get alot of sleep!!!

once you get heavy during pregnancy, you wouldn't want to think about sleeping on your back ... you tend to feel breathless as your child gets bigger inside. i slept on my left for easy breathing and slept on my right for easy digestion after a meal - both worked for me. get yourself a wedge pillow to support your tummy on either side you sleep on. ; )

the baby has a protective cushion around it (the aniotic sack), so as long as you're comfortable, i don't think it matters.
