Actually no. They would be considered freedom fighters and very liberal in that they are only trying to protect their country from an invasion.
Ppl forget that insurgents are not the terrorists. Insurgents are Iraqis that are fighting a forceful occupation... much like we would do if we were ever occupied and invaded.
Islamic extremist terrorists are conservatives much like Christian extremists are...

Being absolutely certain you are separating "Insurgents" from "Terrorists" (as a "terrorist" is a different bird altogether):
Freedom fighters and revolutionaries come about as a reaction to powers that be, so it would really depend on what they were "insurgent" against. Conservative style government, or liberal/socialist style government?
I think the current groups in Iraq would be a little of both. They are unhappy with the lack of government services (a liberal position), but also want a more secular government (the religious right).

Let's see...their way or death...no room for dissention... total control of freedoms, better known as no freedom... from the start they seem more Stalinist, so Liberal... I think maybe you need to learn a little more... a communists left is our right..like football lines.. and remember, a communist is only a socialist that actually knows what he is doing...

muslim faith is very conservative in nature, and the radical islamists would be considered ultra conservative, so i guess so.
