Male hamsters have a scrotum which is quite easy to see, so you probably have a female which is very flat in the pelvic area but if you are still unsure take it to a pet shop and they will tell you.

Sexing a hamster is easy once they're a little bit older. Males grow rather large testicles. With Black Bears, these are very easy to see.
If the hamster is still very young, it's a little bit harder, now you would have to go by the distance between the anus and the sexual opening. The distance for males is rather far, as the distance for females is very small almost unnoticeable.
If you're hamster is at least a few months old and you don't know the sex..it's pretty safe to say you have a female.
As for getting another one...DON'T!!!!
Hamsters prefer to be solitary. Every once in a while, you can get them to be social, but only when you get two from the same litter. If you've already had her by herself, DO NOT get another one, they will fight and eventually kill each other.
Even if you do get two from the same litter, they tend to get territorial when they get older.
And please do not put a male and a female together!! Contraty to popular belief, they will not get along. They will only get along when the female is ready to breed...
(and please do not breed them, they can have up to 22 pups in one litter and can have another litter withing a few days of having that litter and each pup can reproduce once they get to be 6 weeks old...it gets way out of control very fast!!!)
Sometimes, dwarf breeds can be kept together but not Syrian hamsters(Black Bears are a type of Syrian, black bear is just a name that refers to their coloration)....I hope this helps...Good luck...

You must hold the hamster up by the scruff of the neck. If you are not sure what that means, (gently pull the loose skin together on the bak of the neck 1/2 way between the ears and the back). With the tummy towards you, look at the 2 "openings", a females will be very close together, and a males farther,(maybe little more than a 1/4 inch.) And you can get the same breed at a PetSmart.

it easy to tell if its a male they'll be dragging their nuts behind them its very noticible you might can get one of the same breed but i wouldnt have 2 males in a cage together or 2 females together cause they will definently fight if your going to have 2 in the cage together that are the same sex you need to get them at the same time and out of the same litter

From Hamsterific.com: In males the anus (opening for excreting feces) and the penis (which is kept tucked up inside a small opening) are further apart. In females the anus (opening for excreting feces) and the vaginal opening (which leads to where the female organs are located) are much closer together in comparison to the male.

If you're going to get another one you'll need to get another enclosure for it. I wouldn't even keep blacks of the oppisite sex together. We tried and they fought. It wasn't cool trying to pry apart this little ball of fur.

hamsters are solitary creatures and will often kill another one if you put them in the same enclosure.
