My wife and I were wanting to travel to Las Vegas... we want to stay on the Strip, and we want to stay somewhere fairly nice but not pay a whole ton of money.

Anyone know of a good hotel that's a pretty good compromise between price and quality?

The best way to save money on a LV hotel is to avoid special events, large conventions & weekends.

It appears you look for exactly the same thing that we do "value". If you're not familiar with LV room rates>it's a crazy game, one week you can stay in a grear four star hotel for $49 the next week they want $300-$500 for the same room. It's the same with every hotel in LV> they want to fill every room and if they can charge a fortune for the room and get it done, fine, if they have to practically give the room away, they will do that to. If you're flexible on your vacation and can go when things are slow you can save a lot of money.

The Best deals on a four star hote are "generally" at the Luxor
http://www.luxor.com
The Luxor is very good about sending out e-mail offers if you go to their web site and sign up for them.

The best deal for a three star are at the Stratosphere
http://www.stratospherecasino.com
The Stratosphere will price match the best rate you can find for their hotel. They are also good about sending out e-mail offers.

If you don't care to have a pool, this hotel has the best location in LV and is very reasonable

I know you said you wanted a hotel "on the strip", but I though I would mention this one anyway >Tripadvisor readers voted this hotel the #2 best value hotel in the world< The Orleans hotel is one of my favorites, we spend 1-2 weeks a year there and have since it opened. It's a very nice 3 star hotel, they don't have the very best of anything but they do have the best of everything>My #3 best value buffet in all of LV - also the #3 best "moderate" price steakhouse
Prime Rib Loft - It seems like they have 9 restaurants - and of course some great places for a quick bite, like Terrible Mike's(great burgers) a Subway, the Cafe has the best "graveyard" specials in LV($2-$3) If you just want to grab a hotdog they serve $1 dogs. 18 screen movie theater - Hockey arena - 70 lane bowling alley - a production show & headliners - The best liquor store in LV >Terrible's< they use it as a loss leader to bring in the locals. Here's the site to check it out.
http://www.orleanscasino.com >they also have a great slot club, .3% cash back when most LV casinos payback .1% or less and it does not take much play at all to get free night offers. We have separate accounts so that we get offers for 4 free nights instead of only 2.

We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We have to do our homework, search for deals and take advantage of all the breaks we can get to be able to enjoy LV as often as we do.

If you have any Q's I would be glad to try and help you find the perfect spot for your vacation. You can send me an anonymous e-mail through YA. >No I'm not a TA , LOL, this is just fun for me, I enjoy helping folks have a great time for less $$$ in LV<

My hubby and I have stayed at the MGM Grand, the Luxor and the Imperial Palace. The MGM Grand and the Luxor were very nice and inexpensive (under $100.00 a night). They are at the far end of the strip, so you have to walk a bit to get to the center of the strip. The Imperial Palace is an older hotel, but it is located right in center of the strip, across from Ceasars. The rooms have been remodeled and were under $70.00 a night. We had a room right on the front of the hotel looking out at Ceasars and we would sit out there and people watch, it was great. Depending on where you want to stay on the strip, you can find really nices rooms for very reasonable prices. They want you to come out there and spend your money.

I was in Vegas a year ago as part of a company function. We stayed at Treasure Island (now called TI) and it was pretty nice. There are a few others that I have heard are pretty reasonable, one is Circus Circus, the other is the Excalibur. TI and Circus Circus are at the north end of the strip, Excalibur is at the south end.

Plenty of transportation up and down the strip, I would say the best bet is the Deuce...double decker buses that travel all day and all night, you can get a 24hr pass for a decent price too.

Flamingo, Tropicana, Excalibur, Circus Circus, these hotels are a bit cheaper even though they are near the other more expensive hotels.

Stay away from the MGM, New York New York, Paris, Bellagio, Venetian... these are the most expensive hotels.

Good Luck, hope you and your wife have a good time!!

Go to Yahoo travel. Every Hotel on the strip is rated on Yahoo. It will give you specifications on what type of hotel they each are, the cost, what shows are available, etc.

the stratosphere is at one end of the strip and moderate. I thought it was nice, the room is large, the pool is quite a walk though through the halls, dont get a room next to the pool or it will be very noisy.
