In another words, if i am running a 3000watt dc to ac inverter on my car, drawing a 19 amp from battery. Can my alternator charge fast enough towards the 12 vdc 66 AH battery, inorder for the inverter not to fail operate at all time. Alternator will be power by my diesal engine at all time at idling speed.

That is a heavy load for an alternator, but you say its a diesel, I assume its a truck, it might have a heavy duty alternator. Without knowing what type of truck its hard to tell.

Why don't you just get a portable generator, the money you save on gas over idling the full size diesel all day will pay for itself.

3000 watts divided by 12 volts = 250 AMPS.

No, that will not draw 19 amps. It will draw 250 amps.

Perhaps the inverter is rated for 19 amps of 120VAC output?

250A is a LOT of amps. A factory alternator could not possibly produce that much current at idle. You'd need to rig up something special.

Now, I applaud your owning a diesel (biodiesel is good for your engine) but you might be interested to know that the 2007 GM Silverado Hybrid has, built-in, a 2400W, 120V inverter. This works because it uses the large hybrid generator and battery pack to power the inverter. It's a full-size truck, it can tow, and I think the inverter feature is aimed at the tradesman who'd own a pickup and would otherwise have to haul a Honda generator around in the bed.

BY all rights VCD batteries shouldn't be charged with your car alternator. Not only is it not safe for the battery and could cause serious body injury and damage to the vehicle it could also cause the alternator to blow diodes. The batter is for slow charging like 4 to 6 hour charges. Now you can use the batter to run your inverter but it doesn't really have enough amps to do what your wanting to do. That's why power inverters were made for cars and not mobility scooters or boats with those types of batteries. Do your self a favor and get a regular battery from your local auto zone.

The only queston is at idle. I'm really not too sure. I'd say go ahead and try it, if it doesn't work then up the idle
