In most cases the answer is YES, very rare or unlikely a best man is usually a woman as this combination does not compliment the bride and bridegroom, you have the bridesmaid usually a woman and a bestman usually a man that compliment the combination of a bride and bridegroom.

I am a retired prof. photographer. When I did a wedding I usually took along a tailor's tape measure to "Resolve" that "Best Man" question. Having a female in that spot could change the whole meaning of the term! OMG!

In some churches perhaps. But I have been at a wedding recently where the "best Man" was actually described as "Best person" and it was a woman, the mans best friend and cousin.

I guess you dont have to have it be a man so how about a best woman or a best friend? this may work but i am not sure lol. Do whatever you want it is your day and wedding.

It could be a female....AS LONG AS YOUR FIANCE IS OK WITH IT. Girls don't always tell the truth (big shock), so if you think that your fiance will mind at all, just go traditional and have your female friend on the bride's side. Your wife will remember this forever, so just make sure that she is SO TOTALLY OK WITH IT!

they call it the best man cause it is ussually a man but i think should be called best person.. so i think your best person and be either 1 male or female.. if others disagree then i think it kinda sexist. so i think the answer is no it doesnlt have to be a man

Thats a good question! (Let me know when you find out) I always believe in you can who and or what ever you want in YOUR wedding, because its your wedding. I dont think there is a LAW for what to have and what no to have in a wedding! CONGRATS!!!!

No! A best man is no different than a maid of honor. IT IS YOUR BEST FRIEND WHO SHOULD STAND AT YOUR SIDE REGARDLESS OF SEX.
