Many women have confided to me that they would much rather work with men than other women. Women are constantly gossiping and stabbing each other in the back. Why is that?

I think it is because we are challenged more so by each other, than we are by men. We are used to having to fight men for positions of power, but when a women holds that position -- it threatens us. We see other women w/ power as threats...rather then as possible mentors. How many times have you heard a strong woman described as a *****? It happens all of the time. If we ever want to truly crush the glass ceiling, I think we have to start watching out for each other and stop cutting each other down...just for being strong women.

A lot of the time that is true but not always. I am constantly watching girls around me gossiping and stabbing each other in the back. Women or just more passive aggressive than men. The only thing that's keeping me from believing that all women are out to get each other is the fact that I'm not. I stay out of the drama. So, it has a lot to do with the person and not their gender.

So much depends upon the individual woman. I can work well with just about anybody, but there are some women who I think are insecure about themselves for some reason and cannot work with another woman that they perceive as prettier or smarter. I was traveling with 4 other women one time when I was carded. (I was 31 at the time) Suddenly two of them started asking me if my hair was naturally curly (it is), if my eyes were really blue (they are), and if I had ever worn braces( I didn't). I had no idea why they were acting like that until my friend who was with me told me they were jealous. Personally I think it's totally stupid.

JD that is true, not only because of the gossip, you didn't mention the part were we envy one to the other, and cant stand some criticism. in my work place most of us are women and sometimes is an awful environment to be in, there is always someone picking in on another for no reason, or just to have a good laugh.... I guess that is how it is......
i hope is not in general......

Like men, women compete as well. Then there goes insecurities, gossip then simply destroying each other(It's a chain reaction).. I don't know why but others just don't want to be dominated esp if its with a same sex.. Sad to say, It's like a popularity contest..

I have worked in group homes where it is almost all female staff, and I know what you mean. However now I'm going to school for IT, where I am sometimes the only female in the room, and I can tell you, men are just as bad, they just aren't as animated about it. Same story, but different language is used.

i would fathom to say that a woman gets into the attack mode, (backstabbing etc) when she feels *threatened* someway by another female.
Its almost like the alpha male..
she - the *alpha male* woman wants to dominate, hence the reason to backstab and backbite.
A normal human reaction really

It is often because of mood swings and menstral cycles. Nothing sexist about it...it's just a fact.
