The Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo was a treaty signed by Mexico and The United States in 1848 which basically gave the the United States a littel over 50% of Mexicos land. The territory Mexico ceased included modern day Utah, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and parts of California. The Treaty was signed, on teh mexican front by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, whcih many mexicans consider a traitor. The treaty was signed after the two year long conflict between Mexico and the US. The overall land that Mexico ceased was 1.36 M KMsq.

The long term effects were the US obtained more territory and Mexico resented the US more.

The short term effect was that the US stopped the war with Mexico.
