She could be having twins. It is not too early. If she has had a blood test, the hcg(preg hormones) levels may be higher than they should be based on her lmp and the doctor may be assuming twins. Also at 6 weeks, twins can be seen on ultrasound. Ultrasounds are so much more advanced now than even when I had my youngest daughter almost 7 years ago.

An early ultrasound can show twins, but let me share with you what happened to me.. I went in at 5 weeks just to check to make sure it was a viable pregnancy and the tech found 2 sacs "twins". She wasnt positive that she scanned right so she had me come back 3 weeks later. Both sacs was still present, but still she couldnt pick up a baby.. I went in today for a 3rd ultrasound to see if the sac was still there.. Sadly it was gone.. The tech said she can see where the baby was, but it was gone now.. Some twin pregnancies go unknown because they wait so long to do an ultrasound.. If she had an early one done, and they found 2 sacs. Then my wishes are with her that it stays that way.. 6 weeks is early to be told it is going to be twins anything can happen.. Look at my situation...

If she doesn't know her dates, they may have done an ultrasound to try to figure them out. It is possible, because I found out I was pregnant July 21, and had an ultrasound on August 22, to find out that I was pregnant with twins, and miscarried one. They can tell because there are 2 sacs. Are you worried about it because you could be the dad? Just wondering why you would care otherwise.

Yes. It would be visible by then. Here is my ultrasound at 7 weeks. There are tons of reasons for having early ultrasounds- a history of previous miscarriage, an abnormal blood test with high hcg levels, or they OB may just have a machine in their office and offer all parents a first reassuring "peek".
Here is my twins ultrasound from 7 weeks.

It is possible for her to already know that she is having twins. My doctor did an ultrasound at my first prenatal checkup, just to make sure the dates were about right and everything was normal. There wasn't much detail at the time, but I could definitely seel the little head and arm buds. I imagine if there were two of them in there, we would have seen it then.

6 weeks is a little early to tell but she could have had an ultrasound by now. Even with the ultrasound it might be hard to tell. Maybe she said she thinks she's having twins? Or maybe her doctor told her she might have twins and she just misheard?

it is possible to get an ultrasound earlier than that because my doctor likes to get one right away to confirm the due date and that the patient is pregnant now im not sure if you could see twins at 6 weeks but i would imagine so and just out of curiosity what concern is it of yours really?

I couldn't tell them how far along I should have been, because my cycle was very irregular. so, at 8 weeks, my first doctor appointment, I had an ultrasound. it's not a very detailed one, just measures the size to see how far along the mother is. but if that's what happened to her, and if there are 2 sacs.. she may very well be having twins. if you still don't believe her. I guarantee they gave her a copy of it, ask to see it. : )

If a doctor suspects that there could be a complication in the pregnancy - twins - they can order an ultrasound. I'm surprised that she is going public with her prenancy so early... best of luck to your co-worker!

She could have had an early ultrasound for other medical reasons. I was on fertility drugs when trying to conceive my son, and once pregnant an ultrasound was done to rule out multiples (higher chance with the drugs).
