Fort Wayne, Indiana legislators have just passed an inane no-smoking law that will take effect June 1. Like many other cities around the nation, these local legislators have taken away one more freedom of choice.
I'm 63 years old, and have never smoked in my life. However, I'm considering starting to smoke just so I can see how many times I'll be arrested and fined....AND see how many hours of precious law enforcement time can be wasted on such a trivial and insipid law.
If lawmakers truly want to ban smoking because of the health risks, why not ban the manufacture, distribution and sale of cigarettes instead of making it illegal for citizens to use a product that is perfectly legal and readily available?
Could it be that lawmakers are too cowardly to stand up to the tobacco industry and the billions of tax dolalrs generated by the sale of cigarettes? I'll be 'lighting up' as often as I can, keeping the 'cigarette police' busy while they ignore the rapists, murderers and robbers. -RKO-

Sorry to disappoint you, but the FWPD won't be responding to smoking complaints. The Allen County Health Department is going to be using taxpayer money to hire someone on call 24 hours a day to respond, as well as using the fire department. So, the more times you smoke to provoke a response, the more money we have to shell out as taxpayers as they need to hire more and more people to respond to smoking complaints. Please try to prove your point another way. Make your point to our worthless city council. The FWPD and FWFD employ plenty of smokers who also are mad about the ban.

Smokers are pathetic disgusting addicts, who should hide away in some dirty basement with their fellow-addicts. They do not belong in decent company among people who value cleanliness and do not choose to smell them.
