Most parents do because if not, they might end up beating the hell out of you. It's the brutal truth.

Well I never was sent to my room... I usually stomped up on my own... didn't realize it at the time but that was exactly what my mom and dad wanted! lol At least then they knew I was upset enough to regret the thing I did... and that was punishment enough!
Not all kids have great stuff in their rooms .. like one person who answered on here said that their kids didn't have anything in their room to do. So it is punishment.
Personally I think it is silly for parents who allow for fun things to be in the bedroom to send their kids to their rooms!
Send them to the corner instead or another room that doesn't have anything of interest to them!
It does give the parent time to cool off as well if it was a really heated argument or if it was something really bad and they need to cool off.
Some kids, fun things or not, don't like it because of the circumstances to which they were sent to their room.

Well parents like to please their kids in every way so the child ends up having all the "fun stuff" in their room. When I was a child my parents refused to let me have a television in my room because they knew it would do no good to send me there. Plus to keep from playing with toys, my parents made me sit on the bed with the door open so they knew I wasn't getting into anything.

I never did that with my son, I would always put him in time outs when he was bad and or put him in the corner wtih a chalk mark for his nose. It worked and I didn't have to do it often. Maybe some parents can try that. It's not cruel and the kids hate it and thereby almost never repeat the behavior.

Well not in my kids rooms!!! There is NO tv, no games, no toys, no computer..... it is a bedroom.
Just as well, we do not have a tv in our room either. I feel the bedrooms are for sleeping (and punishings :o) )
We send you to your room because we need that 10 minutes to cool down.

Depends if I had kids they could have whatever they want in their but if their being punished they better not be playing games but I wouldn't punish them like that I would take priveliges away.

Thats mom and dad's way of removing the temptation to kill their children. Out of sight, out of mind. My parents did the same thing with me. They weren't doing me any favors by doing this though. Killing me a few times probably would have straightened me out. I'm not a parent but I can certainly see the reasoning behind the action.

some people don't have all the good stuff in their room.
so the parents send them to the room because they know it.
or they take away the computer or tv etc.

With some kids it is like sending them to Disneyland, but with some kids, especially if they are social being sent to their room is horrible. I HATED being sent to my room when I was a kid because I liked being out where everyone else was.
