Okay, you are really asking for it. Are you ready? First, a quick set-up... Make sure it's a large arena, like where they play basketball. Go only with good friends or your boy/girlfriend. Make sure you avoid "obstructed view" seats. Buy your tix early. No matter how much they seem to cost, it'll be worth it. Waiting til the nite of the show is too risky. Go see a BAND, not some singer. Whole different atmosphere!! Arrive before the end of the opening act. Plan on standing in line for concessions.
NOW, you are about to enjoy a SHOW!!
Everybody is HIGH! On Something! Even Life itself! Okay, a few drunk guys and girls, but they're just kinda stumbling around, willing to exchange "Hell-Yeahs!" with you and anybody within blurry sight! The BEST T-shirts you will ever see are in front of you, on the walls around you and already being worn by 9% of some really cool people. The bathrooms are a trip! Any complaining about waiting for relief is always with a big grin. Every aspect of a concert is a shared experience. When you find your seat, you realize that half the people on the Earth are already inside the arena. You feel amazed that your seats are "there," waiting just for you! You look around you, at all the people buzzing with anticipation, and begin to "feel" the energy. Then you try to focus on the scene of a thousand people across the arena, and try to soak it all in. You might see frisbees or large balloons randomly being thrown or bounced around. You constantly shift your focus from empty stage to who you are with, to across the arena to trying to listen, to trying to talk into somone's ear.... then, SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING the lights go down and there is an instantaneous collective ROAR of pure energy from the crowd all around you and you are pulled into it and compelled to yell and hear yourself scream like you have never heard yourself before AND YOU LIKE IT!! YOU LOVE IT!! You become one with the crowd and the show is about to begin!!!
Then the band comes out and you know they feel the rush too because you then realize that's what they live for! And then you hear incredible live versions of favorite and not-so-favorite (but they sound good too) songs and you realize many new things about this BAND and what they are all about and what it must be like to play night after night to so many fans. You wonder about many new things. About the power of music. These songs that you have heard while showering at home or driving to the store have suddenly come to life before your eyes & ears! You desperately hope you can remember all the songs in the order the band played them. You wish someone else that you knew was there. This night will live on in your memory forever, for what it is!
I've been to many different concerts and I remember each and every one separately, yet they all share this common energy and thrill! It runs constant thru each one like a thread which connects one to the other. For me, Neil Young summed it up the best when he once sang in the early 80's, " 'Live Music Is Better' bumperstickers should be issued!" So, attend as many of these events as you possibly can.
The Band just continues to give and give with a stream of music and you never know when it's gonna be over because some around you react like it might be, but then a renewed roar from "out there" makes you glad the band has returned for "one more song." But they play THREE more powerful tunes that EVERYONE-IN-THE-ARENA IS-TOTALLY-INTO!!! Not an ounce of energy is wasted by crowd or Band!!! But both know when it's time to stop. Not a minute before or after. It's a given. It's collectively felt. And it's Okay. It was a perfect evening for all, Ladies & Gentlemen... A Rock-N-Roll Circus.
And when it's over, and you walk up and out of the arena and into the fresh air, it's like you have made a passage with a good friend or friends from a mutually-shared dream, into a brand-new reality. WOW!! Walking fast, ears tinkling, the buzz of people all around you moving in every direction, you have witnessed and shared a collective experience. One that not 24 hours, 24 days, 24 years, nor 24 lifetimes can replace. YOU WERE THERE!

going to a really small place to see a concert is the best! its like seeing a band play in your living room. the people all around you are dancing and smashing into you and you do it right back and if you fall everyone helps get you back up so no one will step on you and your thirsty and your feet hurt because you've been waiting for two hours just to see four people play some music and when the band finally comes out everyone goes so crazy and there is even more dancing and singing and moshing and someone might make your nose bleed but that doesn't stop you. guy wear white shirts that are soaked in sweat and try to bump into you just to get the seat on you (every concert I've been to this has happend). its the greatest thing that a teenager can ever do and the best part is that there is one happening every night!

It depends on what kind of concert it is... I know nothing about Switchfoot, so I don't know what the crowd will be like... Rock concerts are NUTS tho... There's always at least one huge fight that needs to get broken up... lots of drunk people... lots of weed... Lots of hoes flashing their boobs to the crowd... Don't stand too close to the stage in the general admission area! You could get hurt. I got trampled at an Incubus concert... Very scary. But if it's not a "moshing" band then you're probably safe.
Have fun!

Back in the day of REAL rock, It was one of the few things that I REALLY looked forward to. And they were CHEAP! One of my first concerts was only $8 (now you can barely get a popcorn for that price). And the Bands used to show off their talents with a guitar solo or a drum solo or a keyboard solo. Nowadays, it doesn't seem like anbody has the talent to play a solo. The music was electrifying and vibrated your entire body!! The drummer's drums would shake you and bounce you around. And everybody in the arena held up a lighter and practically illuminate the entire building. And when the show was over your ears were ringing for days. (but it was a GOOD ringing...yeah, right). Then we'd go buy the coolest T-Shirts for a mere $12 and you'd be PROUD to wear it to school the next day. OK...I'll get off my soapbox now.

if it's a little local band concert in a gym or something like that, it's loud, but not nearly as loud as a concert for a really popular, famous band, because they have packed stadiums, or fields and need to let everyone hear. if you're by the front, then it is most likely to be louder. most are really fun/exciting, even without moshing (makes it more fun with).

oh and if you have sensitive ears, but want to be by the front, then make your way there slowly from the back of a crowd.

Well I've been to two outdoor concerts, one with famous 80's bands: Cinderella, Ratt, Quiet Riot, Firehouse, and the other one was a beatles tribute band they were really enjoyable cuz its loud and everyone is there for the same reason. Its just something to reallly look forward to. I hope with this year's ozzfestt being free bands can lower ticket prices and still put on good shows.

Well since you're going to see Switchfoot.. I dont think there would be much crazy things going on... They're not hardcore or anything, they're your simple Christian rock group... so I guess there isn't much to worry about. ^ - ^ But if you go to some heavy metal or hardrock shows... better watch out. ^ - ^
