Chris and Missme and others have given you good advice
BUT IT IS NOT ENOUGH !
Of course do a scandisk (Start, My Computer, Right click on "C", then properties, then tools and then "error checking" and of course "defgrag") in case you have forgotten.
What you really need is the best FREE new version of EASY CLEANER, invented by a FINNISH programmer and given to the world. It used to be called TONI ARTS but people STOLE this and started to SELL IT.
The genuine Easy Cleaner is FREE and you get it NOW at the new URL:
http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts
Look for second row from the left, fourth one down in products. It is EASY CLEANER. Just click on this and follow instructions. It is an EXEC file and very safe (no viruses)
Do the one with installer and follow instructions. Now just open it and go to "CLEAN FILES", then "UNECESSARY FILES" and hit "FIND". Wait for it to complete (2 minutes+)
This will clean all your temps and dlls and logs and junk that has been slowing down your PC.
Now go back and investigate Syartup and Registry etc. Be careful, Read instructions so you won't delete stuff you NEED.
Use Easy Cleaner a couple of times a week. It is the best FREE program on the INTERNET !

I had problems like this. Try defrag then click on Control Panel, click on Internet Options, brings up Internet Properties. Click on General. Click Delete Cookies, then click Clear History. Click on OK. It is surprising how you can stack up files you have been looking at on the net. It is a good idea to have an exercise book and jot down any sites you think you might like to return to later down the track. That way, you can do this "Defrag etc" often. Certainly improves performance. Hope this helps.

Try clearing the cache, deleting the cookies and the internet files and removing any spyware you might have. Defrag your computer will also help your computer keep from lagging! Good luck:)
