I just started thinking about space and realized is there a stoping point in the whole universe where there is a wall and it ends? i dont understand if we send an spaceship straight up will it ever stop at a certain point? i just dont understand if the universe is infinity big or however you say it. like are there walls or something around the whole universe to stop us from going any further?

a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY long time ago there was an explosion in space called THE BIG BANG. nobody knows how big the the universe is since
(1) we do not have the technology to travel to the end of the universe and
(2)the universe is still expaning due to the result of the explosion.

There are no walls to bound the universe.
Space might be infinitely large. You could travel in a straight line forever.
Or space might curve back and form what is called a finite unbounded manifold. This is sort of like the surface of the earth. If you walk far enough, you don't fall off the earth or reach a wall. You will return to your starting point. The same might be true for space, only with one additional dimension. The universe could be the 3-D "surface" of a 4-D hyperspere.
There are other topologies the universe might have. The "surface" of the 4-D hypersphere has positive curvature. The universe could be the surface of a 4-D torus, with zero curvature, or it could have a variety of hyperbolic negative curvatures.
Scientists have no idea what the size, shape, or topology of the universe is. But this is a fascinating question to think about!

Imagine a penny. If the universe was the size of a penny in half a Milli-second it would be about ten times the size of the sun. To explain this a matter called dark force expands everything in a infinity amount of time. As time increase everything gets larger but it is hard to tell because of all the "stuff" that is expanding at the same time. It is not infinity big as some people thing but it is increasing at the highest speed possible "the speed of light" When something increases at that speed in area size cannot be told because we would reach the spot and the size would have grown.

The topology of the universe is not well understood. Many cosmologists believe space itself is expanding, and that space and time came into existence at the big bang.

We know the big bang occurred right about 13.7 billion years ago. The furthest objects we can resolve are estimated to be 27 billion light years away. That gives you an approximate radius for the universe. The best analogy for the universe is that of an expanding sphere, but you are not at the center--you are on the surface of the sphere. From your vantage point on the surface, the horizon appears to be equidistant in every direction you look.

How can we see objects 27 billion light years away if the universe is only 13.7 billion years old? It is because space is expanding.

It is estimated to be some 15 billion light years wide. And no there is no wall. The end of the universe is where the furthest star is. But since the universe is expanding, or so we think, the furthest star keeps getting further away from us.

Well there is no stopping point on the universe, the human being percives this because we live in 3 dimension as we all know. According to the spaceship, it will never stop as long as you want it to stop.

The bottom line is, the universe is too big for us to know yet. Light takes time to travel, and from what light has told us so far, the universe doesn't "stop" within our visible range.

we r so used to seeing things 'kept' somewhere...like earth 'floating' on space...stars 'hanging' in the galaxies...and ure book 'on' the table...lol...this subconciously gives u the idea that 'universe' is also hovering about somewhere...the key is theres no 'outside' to universe...stop being so logical...universe cant be understood with the logic we r used to in our everyday's life...universe has no boundaries...:)

even if you have the speed of light, yo can keep traveling till till you die and you still wouldnt be 1/9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 of the end of the universe.

hope this helps
