Are you breast feeding? That would cause some of it.
My wife, after delivery, was told to put cabbage leaves on her breast. (She didn't breast feed). Cabbage wasn't the key thing, as much as putting cold compresses on. Good luck

Your doctor should have given you a little bottle of lanolin to put on after every feeding. DON'T give up breastfeeding--it will get better the second day and the third day, and after that you won't hurt at all.
What I did when my baby first began to nurse is (believe it or not) bite my lip hard and count to five. By that time, it usually quit hurting. If it keeps hurting after your baby has been nursing for awhile, then the baby isn't positioned correctly.
You can get books from the library about nursing. The best thing for sore nipples is lanolin cream (it is natural and won't sting like creams or lotions, nor will it affect your baby). You can probably find it at a pharmacy.
Good luck, and just try to get through the first five seconds. Believe me, I know--it hurts! But after the first couple of days, it doesn't hurt at all...I've been nursing for over a year now.

When I was breastfeeding my oldest daughter after she was first born, I would cry the entire time she ate because I was in so much pain. Like it was worse than giving birth I lot. My sister in law went to a local drug store and bought a Nipple Shield. It saved my life and I could actually get through each feeding after that without crying. It like a thin rubber shield that is shaped like a nipple, has a few little wholes on the tip, and suctions to the boob and you seriously can barely fell the baby feeding. And you only use this long enough to let the nipples heal. Then you can actually bond with your child without having to go through so much pain. Just go pick one up and I promise you will not regret it. Good Luck

Are you breastfeeding? Pumping? How old is your baby? What kind of pain are you experiencing? Any cracking or bleeding? Really lots more info we could use to help you better.
Make sure baby is latching on correctly. Wide open mouth, lips flanged back like a fish (not sucking his lip in), tongue comes out over the lower gum when nursing, takes in a good deal of breast tissue (covering all or most of your areola and not just your nipple). Make sure to support the head well so baby isn't pulling down on the nipple.
Use Lansinoh cream on your nipples to help keep them from getting dry or cracked and to help them heal.
Call your local La Leche League for help. A Leader will help you for FREE and may even be willing to visit you at home.

Well, I hope you are nursing! When you are nursing, make sure the entire colored part of your breast is in the baby's mouth. Or as much as possible. This was the right way for me and the pain soon ended. I also used a salve to keep them from cracking, but had to wash it off before nursing. Good Luck.

Black tea bags soaked in warm water place on your nipples for about 10 minutes and hold them in place with a towel.
