Ok,
So when it comes to math, I suck.

So I need help with algebra right now...

I don't how get how to do both of these types of algebra

So can some one tell me step by step how to do it so i can finish the rest of my sheet? =P

Thanks,

Here are the two algebra types:

1) 10+4xX=22

2) 5+4xX=3xX+8

The smaller x's (x) is the multiplication sign.

So yeah please help =]

And no i'm not asking you to do my homework for me.

Just tell me step by step how to do those because i'm really stuck on algebra :(

1.

10+ 4x = 22
subtract 10 from each side
10-10+4x=22-10=12
4x = 22 - 10
Divide each side by 4
4/4x = 12/4
12/4
x = 3

2.

5 + 4x = 3x + 8
subract five from both sides
5-5 + 4x = 3x + 8 -5 = 3 or 3x + 3
4x=3x + 3
Subtract 3x from each side
4x-3x=3x-3x+3
x=3

1) 10 + 4xX = 22
10 + 4X = 22
4X = 22 - 10
4X = 12
X = 12 / 4
X = 3

2) 5 + 4xX = 3xX + 8
5 + 4X = 3X + 8
4X - 3X = 8 - 5
X = 3

Okay for #1

10+4X(same thing as 4xX)=22
Subract the ten to get 12, right?
Then divide the 4x by 4 and the 12 by 4 to get 3!

10+4x=22
-10 -10
4x=12
/4 /4
x=3

For the next
5+4X=3X+8
Subtract 5 or 8 to take one away so
4X=3X+3
Subract the 3X(yes you can do that)
so. X=3

5+4X=3X+8
-5 -5
4X=3X+3
-3X -3X
X=3

Okay. First if you put the 4 beside the variable(x) it implies that you multiply.

1) 10 + 4x = 22

4x=22-10 <-subtract the number that is not being multiplied by the variable first

this gives us 4X=12
because we are multiplying by 4, to solve the equation we divide both sides by four=3

2) 5+4X=3X+8

4X and 3X are called like terms. You want to combine these first.

5+4X -3X=8

5+ 1X = 8
subtract 5 from both sides

1X= 8-5

note 1X is the same as X so X=3

I used to be bad in algebra too. Hope this helps.

The main thing to remember in algebra is that if you do something to one side of the equation, you must do it to the other. And, you want to get X isolated on one side to solve for it.

10+4X=22 The first thing to do is subtract 10 from both sides

4x=12

Now you need to get rid of the 4xX, so divide both sides by 4

X=3

To double check your work, plug 3 in where X is, and make sure the equation works.

I'll let you try the next one.

1) 10+4X=22
-10 -10
- - - - - - - - - - - -
4X=12

divide by 4 on both sides
X = 3

So what you do, is try to do anything to "reduce" it. Like, since 10 is on the left side of the equal sign, you can subtract 10 from both sides. That leaves 12 on the right and since 10 - 10 is 0, it leaves 4X on the left. Then you can divide both sides by 4, that leave just X on the left and 12 divided by 4 is 3 so it means X is 3.

then you can try it. So like 10+4(3)=22
4 X 3 = 12, then 10+12 = 22 So that means it's right.

1) step 1: You minus 10 from both sides
10+4x=22
-10 -10 => 4x =12

Step 2: Divide 4 from both sides
4x = 12
/ 4 /4 => x = 3 (the answer!!)

2) Step 1: You have to separate the variables from the #'s (so u minus 5)
5+4x=3x+8
-5 -5 =>4x = 3x+3

Step 2: Minus 3x from 4x
4x = 3x+3
-3x -3x => 1x = 3 => x=3

1) 10 + 4x = 22
-10 -10
4x = 12
carry the 4 over
x = 12 / 4
x = 3

2) 5 + 4x = 3x + 8
-5 -5
4x = 3x +3
-3x -3x
1x = 3
x = 3

1) 10+4xX=22

Okay, with problems like this, you just get the x alone on one side, so first you subtract the 10 from the left side.

4x (you don't need that multiplication sign) = 12
then you divide both sides by 4 to get the x alone
x = 3

2) 5 + 4x = 3x + 8

This is the same principle. Put all the x's together, so subtract 3x from the right side

5 + x = 8

Now subtract 5 from the left side

x = 3

Basically, the rule of thumb is to combine all of your x's, and then isolate them on one side of the equation.

Hope this helped.

for one, when you are asking to solve for x, it is not necessary to put the multiplication sign.

so the problem would be

1) 10+4x=22
2) 5+4x=3x+8

correct?

1) 10+4x=22
-subtract the 10 from each side
4x=12
- divide each side by 4
x=3
- and there's your answer!

2) 5+4x=3x+8
- subtract the 5 from each side
4x=3x+3
- subtract the 3x from each side
x=3

just remember - you can do whatever you want with one side of the equation (one side of the equal sign), just as long as you do it to the other.

one question though- are these two different problems? or is this a system? if this is a system, you'll learn of many more ways to solve it, including: substitution, isolating x, or linear combination.
