I am a first generation Disney kid, so I can appreciate the fact that Disney has kept all the main rides that we loved as kids, so we can take our kids to enjoy them now.
I think Universal Studios is making a big mistake by closing "Back to The Future The Ride".
Every time we have ever visited - which is usually once a year to 18 months - we have never seen "short" lines for this ride. They were always a 30 minute to an hour wait.
I guess they are phasing out catering to my generation?
I have a 12 year old and a 10 year old that has suggested we not go this year, because they would only get upset that this ride was closed..so it cant just be my age group that will miss this ride.
They took away King Kong a couple of years ago. I guess Men in Black and E.T will be next.

here is the link that tells it is closing on march 30: http://www.universalorlando.com/usf_attr_bttf.html
I really hope they get a backlash on this closure idea, and it can stay open

Honestly I think this is an incredibly stupid move on US's part, they are getting rid of the classics that we knew, grew up with, and loved; and was able to share these classics with our families and they are slowly taking them all away. Instead of getting rid of them all in all the should just shut them down for a few months and refurbish the rides like Disney does.
Starting with Ghostbusters Spooktacular to make it Twister. Next, The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, to make it Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast. Then Alfred Hitchcock, The Art of Making Movies turning it into Shrek 4-D. Next was Kongfrontation for Revenge of the Mummy. Lastly was Nickelodeon Studios Tour now holding Blue Man Theater.

Dang, they're closing BTTF? What a bummer.
Why couldn't they close Jaws instead. That ride has NEVER worked right. =P
I've thought for years that they needed to do a little updating to the BTTF ride (like cleaning up the film itself, which was getting a little faded last time I was there)... but I never thought they'd close it completely!
For a child of the 80's and a huge BTTF fan, this is pretty disappointing. Guess I'll be hitting the park the next few weekends to get my last rides in.
But USF has a history of closing the good rides. They scrapped the whole Hitchcock attraction and replaced it with the fad-ish Shrek ride. (But some of the Hitchcock stuff is still there in the Shrek building, thank goodness. I used to work in the giftstore there and our stock room was upstairs in the miniature Rear Window mockup).
Any word on what they're replacing it with? As much as I love and miss Kong, the Mummy ride they replaced it with was way hot. Just wish they could have replaced something less interesting (like, say, Twister) instead of the classics.

Hi,
I went to Universal Studios more than 10 years ago and my wide and I really enjoyed Back to the Future.
Our second visit was last month (with the kids ;-) ). We were really eager to ride it once more and, honestly, we were very disappointed...
I found the image quality very poor and the movements of the car very jerky without real connection to what's going on on the screen...
I think this ride shows its age much more than Star Tours, where the movements are smoother and more in line with the movie.
So, in the end, I can understand it's always sad to see 'old' rides going away, but this one is really outdated...
Of course, it's only my opinion...

Great Scott, I am very disappointed! Last time I was at Universal, that ride was still under construction and I was sad to have missed it. Now it looks like I will miss it altogether! I hope it's still there when I finally take my own family this December.

Dumb move. If anything they could update features of it but to completely get rid of it probably isn't smart. Wonder what they plan on replacing it with.
yes I love how Disney stays true to the classics and still finds time to update with new rides and shows that will become classics themselves.

i'm no longer able to have faith the Longhorns did no longer learn their lesson from final 12 months. My Sooners play BYU independent in the 1st actual interest on the recent Texas Stadium. additionally they play Miami away and Tulsa. no longer particularly as brutal as final 12 months, yet nonetheless a real sturdy non-convention schedule.

I didn't like back to the future, but you are right the lines are long. I was there last week around 9.30 a.m and we waited for like 40 m. to finally enjoy the ride.

Oh my gosh!! I cannot believe they are closing that ride. It has always been one of my all time favorites!! I think they should close Jaws instead. It is a stupid ride with very fake looking sharks that pop up!! I think they should keep it open!
