I was told by my doctor to get a pap smear as soon as I became sexually active or turned 21. So I would say yes.

Yes! You should definetly get one. It's just to gauge your overall health (in that area). I went when I was 18 for my first exam and I had not been sexual active either. A pap-smear doesn't test for STD's really, it's looking for abnormal cells, like the kind that cause or can be and early sign of cancer. It could also show an infection in there too. So don't be afraid to get one, and you should have a minimum of one a year, but they recommend it twice yearly.

In general, YES. Pap smears are first done around ages 18-21. But only your doctor can answer this question, because given the fact that you are a virgin, he/she can discuss with you the possibility of delaying the exam until later or not. It's really something that you need to ask your family doctor.

Yes. All non-sexually active females should have a gyno exam including pap smear yearly beginning at age 18. Females under 18 that are sexually active should start having yearly exams as soon as they become active.

Many people say no, but I think it's a good idea. For one, there are things that can go wrong without ever having sex. Infections, cancer, cysts, polyps, etc. I think it's good to know your physical state before something is wrong too. That way you have a basis for comparison should a problem arise. Breasts are also examined at check ups which has nothing to do with sexual activity either. They aren't so bad, it's much better than worrying that something could be wrong. You could also talk to them about birth control options or family planning if you do want to become sexually active.

I am a 35 year old virgin (yep, I am still a virgin) and I get my pap smear done every year. You can also have issues with HPV even though you are a virgin too. I had issues with HPV 6 years ago and had it taken care of with cryotherapy (a special treatment using cold to take care of the problem).

So in answer to your question about still needing a pap, yes and even though I'm going to tell you to check with your dr to be on the safe side they are most likely going to say yes as well.

Its a good idea to start getting paps when you start menstrating. There are things, aside from sexually transmitted diseases (the visible signs of some--it doesn't test for STDs) that they look at and for. Its also a baseline--its part of caring for yourself. I undergo paps only once a year. That is what I have been recommended for eons.
