Run a virus scan

Yes it is possible. Get some free downloads on these URLS. Also do a defrag and clean files too. Also, go to RUN, then type msconfig . Now in the startup windows you can do away with a lot of start up programs, life hp updates which run in the background. All these just take a little memory but add up. And next time list your computer. Your Pentium 3 may not be that hot. lol

Check the download section at these sites for some free downloads. Also bookmark them and you can learn about computers.

If you go to pcpitstop.com you can buy a register cleaner. I use the one called OPTIMIZE. I find to relieve the headaches you gotta pay. I have had it for 4 years now. It is a one time pay, and not like some others that you gotta buy year after year.

Hi, I've experienced this and what I did was I ran viruscan (I have mcafee). Free virus scanners are great too like AVG or Avast.

After running virus scan I customized my the programs running during start-up. There are actually many programs that run in the background that take up resources but yet we don't need them at start-up anyway. To do this go to start >run> then type msconfig. Then go to the startup tag and uncheck all the unessecary programs (like email clients, media players, etc.).

Also you can use spwayre and adware cleaners like AVG, spybot search and destroy, AD-Aware. All these are free. I like using spyware doctor but you have to register to use it though. But you can use spyware doctor to scan for spware and you can remove it manually.

Also you can use registry cleaners to clean up your registry. There are a lot of registry cleaners on the web, just find the one that you think is best for you. I personally use CCcleaner to clean my registry. Just be sure to back it up in case some important registries are accidentally erased.

And finally, defragmenting works too. If you think it's really to slow after all that maybe you can reformat your computer.

hope this helps. c",)

where to download all the software I've mentioned:

- Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/download.html
- spybot search and destroy: http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and then click on "Task Manager". Click on the "Processes" tab and have a look what process is taking all your cpu cycles. "System Idle" process should be between 97 and 99 if your PC is not actually doing anything - as far as you know! If there is a process taking a large % of cpu then you need to run full virus and spyware scans.

Get this virus scan. The home edition is free and it's better than most of the ones you have to pay for.

Install an anti virus program like AVG. It's a free program and can be found here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Its also a good idea to scan your computer for spywares. I prefer using Spypot Search and Destroy. Its freeware and can be found here: http://www.spybot.info/
