Does the suction hold up as long as they advertise it to?

I bought a Dyson on a whim, I thought it was a bit expensive but thought I would try it anyway since I needed a new vacuum cleaner. Turns out, I am very impressed with it, the suction is better than anything I have used in the past and does not degrade as the collection "bucket" fills up. Emptying the collection bin is easy, pull it off the vacuum with one hand, hold over the trash can and one handed, open the bottom and it all falls into the trash.

I can't think of any dislike about it other than the initial cost.

I would highly recommend this vacuum, I think it works as advertised.

By the way, the first time I ran it over my carpets, it pulled a TON of stuff up, in fact, it completely filled collection bin. I could not believe my old vacuum left so much behind and the Dyson picked it up. Now I can usually go through the house twice before the bin is full and needs emptying. My old vac went several times before I needed to replace the bag, it obviously did not pick up as much dirt.

I purchased my Dyson (a purple one) several years ago and it works as well today as it did when I first brought it home.

My daughter on the other hand bought the Dirt Devil mentioned above 6 mos after I bought my Dyson and her motor burned up before Christmas this year. And she had already had it worked on once. That makes the 2nd vacuum she has had in the last 6 years.

I think my Dyson will last a lot longer than that. And every time I think I have the carpet clean I run the vacuum and it still picks up more dirt and sand. The suction is so strong I know it is doing a good job.

So if you average it out against a vacuum that quits or doesn't do a good job, I think the Dyson is a great value. I think it is going to last a long time considering it still works like new even now.

I have the DC10 (I think) Animal - the purple one with the stronger motor and attachments for animal fur. Love it love it love it.

For starters there are no bags, but it empties alot easier than most bagless vacuums I've used. You literally pop the canister off, hold it over a garbage can or bag and press the button. Shake it once or twice and close the trap door at the bottom.

There is a telescopic wand attached which is nice for ceiling cobwebs, but a little awkward for floors and such. Would be nice for stairs I think (I don't have any though). The attachment tube and wand are pretty convenient though, use them by pressing one button, two to disconnect the wand and just use the stretchy tube. It takes some getting used to, but everything slides right together if done right - don't break the machine by forcing parts. The attachments have excellent suction - far better than I have seen in other similar classed vacuums.

Fairly quiet and not too heavy. Does the job and is still running well after more than a year. No broken belts or anything else yet. *cross fingers*

IMO it is worth the extra money. Yes, the suction does remain consistent with use. I have three cats and need the more powerful vacuum - I wouldn't say the average household with no pets would need it.

Yes! That Vacuum is so amazing. I own the Animal one and I've had it for just about a year now and it has NEVER lost suction at all. It gets everything and I mean everything out of every surface I vacuum over and leaves it nice and clean.

There isn't one thing I dislike about it. The cleaning of the filters is really easy and only has to be one TWICE a year and it's just simply rinising it out. How much easier can it get?

It's a snap to empty the dirty out and it holds a lot so you can vacuum the day away and not have to stop and empty etc. I highly recommend it.

I'm on to my second at first the suction was very strong now if i don't empty the cylinder it doesn't clean as well as i would like, had this one for almost two years and it's never broken down or cut out due to over heating like previous hoovers I've had.I like the Dyson so I'll buy another one when this one dies.

I have the DC007. AWESOME. I love the pet hair attachments and the one for the stairs. I have had mine for 3 years and still sucks!(in a good way!) It is a must if you are disappointed with other vacuums. Worth the price tag, and sometimes they have specials or promotions so be on the look out,. Also have to love the colors. Mine is purple and I just cheers me up when I have to vacuum. Also is very easy to use. Has a long cord and a long hose. The bag less canister is great because you don't turn it upside down and dump it out creating a dust cloud. You just pull a trigger and it drops out. So easy.

Check out Consumer Reports. The Dyson is not the highest rated when it comes to vacuuming carpets. In fact, the $70 12 Amp Dirt Devil was rated higher for carpets, so I bought the Dirt Devil.

I have the yellow one that has the attachments. I bought it at circuit city a couple of months ago, and it works great. The suction is the best I've ever seen on a vacuum.

My wife and I just purchased one last week. It's somewhat complicated to deal with (assembly and such) but it really does SUCK (meant in a GOOD way). It picked up an unGodly amount of crap in our carpet. It's versatile, doesn't require a vacuum bag and has a 5 yr. warranty (yes, 5 years!). She and I agreed that we wanted to spend top dollar on a good vacuum because we have spent alot of money on cheap/faulty vacuums.
