in Chicago your outside the normal range of the recluse. Although the color varies from one to the next their body color is one consist ant color with the exception of a pronounced "tattoo" of a violin on the top forward area of the abdomen. the legs may be of a different color. it was probably a wolf spider. Spiders for the most part want to avoid conflict and bites are usually because someone has antagonized them or accidentally threatened them. putting on a piece of clothing where they thought they would be out of the way. as far as I know all spiders are poisonous but many do not have fangs that will penetrate human skin. I had a tarantula for a pet for several years and never was bitten although it was handled often.

Oh! Be glad you killed it! I think it could have been a type of a brown recluse spider! If it bit you, the area that was bitten could fall off. The venom can close off the capillaries in the area and leave a dry, patch of skin ( or body part ) that will fall off eventually. Don't count on this, though, because I don't know how exactly the spider looks, so yeah.
I hate spiders. :(

It sounds like a garden spyder. It was not poisionous, as in your area, there are only two dangerous spyders, the black widow, which is very small, and shiny black, and the recluse, which is also small, and dusty brown . Both hide away form light, and are seldom seen. Don't be scared. Look for holes or cracks in your bathroom floors and walls, especially near the floor, and in or under cabinets.

That sounds disgusting, it may be a brown recluse, which are highly poisonous. I always say the only good spider is a dead spider, you did the world a favor by squishing it. I was bit by a black widow and I have no love for spiders.

Maybe a wolf spider...they are quite large and I think they are found almost everywhere??? I use to get them in my house, big but harmless, at least that is what I was told!!
Probably not a Brown Recluse...they are small spiders.

I'd rather see one spider than the dozens of bugs each one kills.
