Does anybody know what is the best remedy ?? Should I go to the furniture store, or Home Depot type of store.

I wish you get 20 points (not 10) for the right answer. :)

Serious answers only please! I am really desperate.

I spilled nail polish and then used acetone to remove it. So acetone ruined the surface (discolored).

There is two things you can do. First: Strip the whole thing and re stain it and put Polyurethane. Or Two: Sand down the area that was damaged, re stain the area and polyurethane....The hard part matching the stain.....Go to a paint store so they can match it. (not Home Depot, or Lowe's) A real paint store that has the professionals to match stain, you must bring in a sample to match it.......

Good Luck..............

You said you ruined it, was it a water spot or a scratch or a gauge? They all need to be repaired differently. You may want to just call a furniture repair shop, they work miracles and you can't even tell it was damaged. Although if it is a simple water spot you can usually rub it out with a damp tea bag. If it's a scratch they sell the wax sticks at Home Depot you can color in and buff off. If it's a gauge they sell epoxy based wood repair putty. Good Luck

I am not sure of the damage you've done because the repair method would differ. Is it scratched or did you spill something on it? What kind of wood is it? What is the piece of furniture? Is it stained a certain colour? All these questions need to be answered before anyone can tell you how to fix whatever you've done.

I don't think that going with bigger nails would be a bad idea. There is also an item called "Rock Hard Putty" that works great. It is a powder to be mixed with water, when it hardens it takes on similar properties to wood. So you could fill in the holes just leaving enough open space to start the screws. I think this stuff might work better that wood glue.

Do not be scared simply go to Home Depot get some stripper strip whats left off sandpaper smooth out and stain to redo it! It just wipes on I did a coffee table I got at a yard sale and the top was gone it is now a proud peice in my Living room! P S may want to put some finish on the top that repels water marks ask guys at Home Depot.

Look in the phone book under antiques for someone who does antique furniture refinishing. He will be your best bet to restore the finish to what it looked like before.
