It's his homework, Mom, and he should be making the choices. Homework isn't just about the assignment itself, it's about the child learning to make decisions for himself.

Writing 10 different poems in 10 different styles should be a fun exercise and a good learning experience.

I would like to choose haiku since it only needs three lines. A Haiku consists of 5-7-5 pattern in which the first lines includes 5 syllables, the second consists of 7 syllables, and the third has to have 5. Haiku's are mostly written about nature. Good luck!

i like it. it is the main suitable sentence from intercourse without Love by making use of Sharon Olds which first confirmed me what poetry is able to (it rather is a sprint long): they're like super runners: they understand they're on my own with the line floor, the chilly, the wind, the fit of their shoes, their over-all cardio- vascular wellbeing—merely aspects, like the important different interior the mattress, and not the reality, that's the only physique on my own interior the universe against its very own terrific time. Edit: and confident as Cheese Whisperer says i will no longer be following guidelines...it is close although.

That sounds like a lot of homework. Sounds like he better get right to it. He can use this Haiku I wrote when I was in school to save him time if he wants to.
Little black spider
spinning herself a new web
to catch her supper

Good luck!

well, i really like the free verse.
because with a free verse, you can get across a message without having to follow a given set of rules.
i find them inspirational too! i'd go with the free verse!

Roses are red poem would be the easiest:

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Teachers are smart, just like you!

That should get him a few extra points - :)

Or:

Roses are red, tulips are orange,
Uh-oh!

(The joke is that nothing rhymes with orange.)
