Well, I've started researching birth control and I'm hoping to get on it pretty soon. I've not been on it before (combination both gender condoms and spermicide is all I've used so far..), so I'm not all that sure what to expect or what. I'm looking at hormonal stuff.

I know this is probably a better question for my gyno, but I'd like to know what works better for most people, or what problems others have had on certain pills/patches/rings/shots, etc.
So?

I have personally always experienced difficulty with the pill (even the low hormone kind). It made me very nauseous and I was always skipping it, therefore deeming it ineffective. I was up and down all the time emotionally; crying about nothing one minute and screaming about nothing the next. I had ridiculous cravings for foods that I hadn't liked before and gained a lot of weight - it was as if I was pregnant!
About two years ago, I started on the NuvaRing and it is perfect for me. It doesn't make me ill and I don't have to remember to take a pill every day. I put it in once a month and take it out for a week to have my period and I can never feel it.

The best way to know is, like you said, talking with your gyno about what might be best for you. Only trial and error will tell what kind of birth control may best suit your lifestyle.

You really never know until you try it. Every woman's body will react to hormones a different way, because every woman's hormonal make-up is slightly different. When I was on the pill (5 years, ages 18-23. I'm 24 now) I had no problems at all, except the first time I took it. (Nauseous) I did try the patch for a while (too expensive) and it made me gain weight!! My recommendation is to go with the pill if you have no problem remembering to take it every day. It works if you take it at the SAME TIME every day!!

for me pill do work for me, well depending on the brand...side effects can be minimized by switching brands. i think monophasic ones are best also when you decide to skip periods. but sometimes there are women that can't take them.

patches - i've heard that sometimes they have a problem with it's sticking to the skin, sometimes just a few days they fell off, so you need to replace it.

shot - depo provera - i have read lots of horror stories about it, that some who have taken it, even for one shot, they became sick or years even after stopped taking them. also you cannot use it for more than 2 years. it risk you having osteoporosis, in which the bones became brittle.

rings - some people are allergic to it

also see this site it helped me a lot in chosing the right one for me - with minimal side effects. also download the "birth control comparison chart" for easy comparison of the methods. http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/index.htm
