Stayed at Luxor and had a decent room, but at the Horseshoe we were on the 9th floor with the concert speakers. Any advice? Thanks!

Just got back, and trust me, this works. Try tipping the front desk clerk. Slip a $20 in between your credit card and ID so that it is visible and ask if they have any strip rooms available. They will be very much obliged to help you. I just tried it at the luxor last week and went from a pyramid room to a tower suite with a whirlpool for 3 nights, with only a $20 dollar tip. All I did was ask the desk clerk if there were any "complimentary upgrades" available. It almost always works. I also did it at the palms and was upgraded to a suite in the new tower for 2 nights. If you want anything in Vegas, just tip and ask. That's how you get it.

"Vegas777" gave you a great answer - the ONLY thing I would do differently is, do NOT place the $20 with your credit card and ID, that's the first thing they ask for. Hand the clerk your credit card and ID but have the $20 in your other hand when you ask. They only get the $20 when you get the room keys to your upgrade. Then you thank them and give him/her the $20 handshake. This is not cheating, this is a time honored tradition in LV.

It does not hurt to know a little about the hotel you're staying at. It also does not hurt to go when the hotel isn't full, they can't give you what they don't have. If you have a very low room rate that's a good sign the hotel is going to have spare rooms. Checking in on a Sunday through Thursday is also a big advantage.

If you want a view of the strip, ask for a room in the pyramid on an upper floor facing North. The tower rooms are slightly larger but I like the pyramid rooms >it's just kind of cool to stay in the world's largest pyramid< There are pyramid suites, these are 800sq ft, with a jacuzzi built up next to the window, it's an awesome view.

I hope "Vegas777" does not take my answer as trying to steal his, he gave you a good answer with great advice.

Tip the front desk agent on the down low. $20+. That should get you a room with a view and maybe a suite. It always works for me.

The only thing I can suggest is to ask at the front desk for a better room. If it is not a busy night, they are often willing to accomidate. Even a tip to the front desk can help a bit.
