The gas mileage is better, but I seem to keep hearing about car problems they didn't use to have. If it is just their SUV then it doesn't matter, although they should have known better than to create one of those things.

i own a shop, and from what i been seeing in the shop they are worse than they used to be ,i think the quality of the engines has gotten a lot worse than it was, some of there engines are causing a lot of problems ,more than usual for a Toyota, but i see a lot more now than i used to see,for repairs, but then some of still could be neglect from owners also, but there are a lot of complaints about them, more than ten years ago,so id say your right on this one, good luck i hope this helps.

toyotas have relatively decreased in reliability, but at the same time theyre still near the top of all reliability surveys. Cars in general have gotten more reliable, so the new ones may be more reliable, but relatively less reliable compared to other cars. (ie: their old cars were reliable, but WAY more reliable than the competitors. Their current cars are very reliable, but to a lesser degree more reliable than the competition).

and their SUVs/trucks arent half bad.

In what sense ? Fuel consumption is alot better then it was 10 year ago, however I have not heard of any problems especially with the suv's. There is a reason they carry a $50k price tag.
