Since "Pre-med" is NOT a major, it is a "path", you can pick any major for your degree before moving on the med school. Mostly doctor and pharmacy types choose Biology followed closely by nutritionist. Any science filed will move you along the right path.

I think everyone answered your question. I just wanted to put my 2 cent in here to say that I WAS a nursing student. We started out with 47 students and now the entire program has only 18 students. I tend to think that the nursing program was veryyyy tough and I can't begin to imagine how much tougher it must be to go through med school.

Also, it is not uncommon for people to change their majors. You don't know until your try it out. If it weren't for the opportunity for me to venture into the nursing program, I wouldn't know how much I really hate nursing or any medical field.

Have you taken a test that analyzes your personality to match what career path is right for you? The test categorizes a thinker as a nurse or doctor. I was categorize as an organizer someone who should be more in the human resource/business field.

Just make sure this is something that you absolutely want to do because you don't want to find out thousands of dollars later (like me) that the medical field is not for you. I guess you wouldn't know til you try. Have you thought about volunteering at the hospital and maybe taking a tour of med school or some of these nursing program to see what it's really like? We had 2 high school seniors sit in our classroom to see if nursing was for them.

Good luck!!

Either of those would lead to a nursing career, not a doctor. You would want to follow your college's pre-med program - usually a double major in biology and chemistry, with some physics and math thrown in so you can pass the MCATs, which are like the SATs for medical school. Once you finish your 4-year degree, then you apply to medical school to become a doctor.

If you are sure you want to be a doctor, talk to your college of choice's advisor as to that school's pre-med program. So many students change majors in college that I would advise going is undeclared and getting all of your general education courses out of the way. It gives you time to make up your mind, and you won't waste units on major courses for a major you may decide to change.

It does not matter what major you pick, as long as you get a high GPA. Medical schools do not require you to have a certain major in order to be accepted. You do not have to major in pre-med, you just need to take the required classes. You can major in something completely different, like Russian Literature, just remember to take the classes that medical schools require.

Like all the peeps said...Pre-Med. Nursing is a whole different enchalada as you know. But RN's still make seriuos cash. You have a little time to think it through. But don't waste too much time, you'll want to know if you want to be doc ealry so you can start kicking *** and gettin the grades that will get you into a good medical school.

You need to be in a pre-med program in order to become a doctor. Talk to your school guidence counciller to see what schools would be good to go to.

As well, you probably should have looked at this a little earlier, because you likely needed to have some courses in high school such as biology, chemestry, etc in order to get into pre-med.
