you can express your opinions without letting others know you do what they are talking about. just make the conversation about people in general and the issue... not anyone specific especially yourself. this is a good way to be true to yourself and your beliefs without putting your lifestyle out in the open.

I don't care. Everyone knows I'm gay, I don't hide it, and if you talk about homosexuality in my presence, in a civilzed way or a dimunitive way, I won't react any more strongly than I would if you were talking about politics or whatever else. I don't want people to feel like they have to watch what they say around me, and I don't want to force my little speeches on them every time they say something that's not PC. You have a question about my lifestyle? I'll answer it. You have some opinion on my lifestyle? I may or may not care enough about your opinion to comment on it. If it's verbal harassment directed at me that's different, but even then, stuff is only offensive if you let it be. People call me a ******, I say "yup, that I am".

Don't worry about what others think just over look it and let it be because no one can make you feel bad about yourself or something you do unless you LET them, if you feel that what you are doing is right for you be proud of it!! you don't have to tell anyone just be proud of who you are and what you do for yourself!!!

This happens all the time in my family. I argue my opinions but try not to hint off why. That could get me kicked out in this family. They don't agree with anything that isn't heterosexual.

If you don't want them to know, you don't react. If you don't care whether or not they know, then you tell them that their words are offending you, why they are offending you and ask them to stop in your presence. Or just tell them that they are sounding really narrow minded and that you want nothing to do with their conversation.

Most of the time, ignore them to the point of not even talking about them and they'll go away. It just takes time and patience.
