I have cable, it downloads like 1megabyte a sec, but on big files that are a gig or so, it totally clogs down. It doesn't stop or anything, it just takes like one hour to download. How do I make it go faster?

You can't physically make it faster due to a number of factors. You can try using those softwares but most of them are rubbish and don't work. The reason why its slow is because the servers upload bandwith is lower than your download bandwith causing you to max out the servers bandwith. Another factor is that the internet is busy, to make it slightly faster visit and download the file at around 1 am. Or you can try purchasing a higher internet speed connection. Like I have a 5 meg connection and my download speeds are about 550 KB/s, but that doesn't happen on all sites because most servers don't support that speed and give you what they can. Distance is also a factor, if your downloading the file from 5 blocks away versus a file from Moscow, the one 5 blocks away will be way faster. If you purchase a upgrade in speed, it'll help at some points too, like from microsoft I download at 550KB/s and at my school it downloads 23MB/s, but at a site where I was downloading a game demo, at home it was 330KB/s and at school it was 330KB/s because the servers don't support 550KB/s and especially 23MB/s. So just be patient because sometimes there is absolutley nothing you can do.

Your cable Internet is faster than that but the servers on most websites limit or do not have as fast of connection as you and you can only download the stuff as fast as they download.
