Talk to your baby's pediatrician.

First, call the pediatrician. He/she will probably have you bring him in to check that there is nothing else wrong.

This happened to my daughter when she was about 12 days old. The doctor said that her sphincter (I don't know if it's spelled right) was too tight. Therefore, she was unable to have a bowel movement.

She demonstrated for me how to take some Vaseline and put it on my pinky. I had to VERY GENTLY put just the very tip of my pinky about 1/4 of an inch into her rectum and VERY GENTLY move slightly to help her pass the BM. This worked very well, as every time I did that (about 1 or 2 times a day), she would immediately have a BM, a couple of times on my hand. Ew. After a couple of days, she was poopin' like a champ on her own.

I also gave her some Karo syrup. The doctor recommended it to relieve the constipation and it worked. I believe I gave her 1/2 a teaspoon. That also worked wonders for her.

Of course, refer to your pediatrican before doing any of the above suggestions.

My newborn was like that and I called the nurse at the hospital. Her advise to me was use about a teaspoon of dark karo syrup and mix it with her bottle only once and not after for 24 hours. It should help her constipation by then if not sooner.
It did help for mine. If not you should see your doctor.
Good luck!

You can give him some boiled water, cooled of course, about an ounce or two. And try doing some leg exercises, lay him on his back, and move his legs as if he was riding a bicycle. It worked great for my daughter. I usually just did the leg exercises, and that always helped her. Just remember that babies don't always go every day. My daughter would go every other day, when she was a newborn, and the doctor said that was fine. If your really concerned call the doctor.

In my experience, apple and prune juice would be fine. I would give him no more than 2 or 3 ounces and wait a couple of hours. I have also had to use Karo syrup in each bottle. I usually put about 1/2 teaspoon for about 3 to 4 ounces.

I would definitely contact your doctor and make sure. Good luck!!

Call your doc before you do anything. My doc told me not to worry until it had been more than three days. You can try pouring warm water on the bottom. Or wipe gently with a warm cloth. Just make sure it's not hot water. Again, check with your doc before you do anything.

my doctor had me give my baby Gerber apple juice diluted with water for constipation. 2 oz apple juice and 2 oz water or she said I could use prune juice diluted with water. I did the apple juice and it worked. If concerned call the doc!

my daughter had the same problem when she was a baby. Karo syrup works but just a little bit in the bottle either w/ water or their formula.
