Remember your keys - then your responsibility.

You key the backs through the offensive line.
You probably also have gap responsibility on top of that.

Your "reaction time" is based on down and distance and your research of the opponents Tendencies.

you can do piano drills, start-stops, 40 yard sprints, and back peddle drills until your knee caps fall off...
these won't help you anticipate an orgasm in a thunderstorm...

Team tendencies are vital.
You need to know how often runningback #34 takes the ball to the strong side A gap when their team needs 5 yards...
Your reaction then will be immediate.
As a slow - old man...If I know you're coming the C gap on my side of the field on third down...
I'll be at the line of scrimmage before you - and you'll lose yardage.

I didn't develope that reaction time by doing piano drills or Oklahomas...i developed that by watching game film and looking at the coaches tendencies chart.

good luck

Well working on your 40 yard dash can be a big help. The faster the better. Also work on the 20 yd shuttle where you have 2 cones 20 yds apart and go from one cone to the other in the fastest time. One other thing hit the weights stronger the better.

the best thing to do. is to go through the situations with bags or people. being in the situation. will allow you to make faster reads in the game. also proper footwork is key to playing ILB. for that. it requires. lots of drills. bag drills. backpedal drills. you have to be able to read the play as its flowing and make your reactions quick and hard.

side to side shuffles and practicing hip wheels are also great for this.

and run. being in shape will allow you to get to the ball faster and not be late taking on the block or making the tackle.

suicides (5 yds and back, 10 yds and back......all the way till 50 yds), rope running (foot work), running when pulling weights (strenght), and contact drills (just good for football)

Why would you drill a basketball anyway? That would puncture it.
