I prefer to use "Black American". Considering most of the so called "African Americans" are not born in Africa. But right here in the USA!

Neither, I like being called by my name instead of being identify by my race and ethnicity. Besides, I was born in American, not Africa and not every African- American have black skin, we come in all shades, so that term doesn't fit everybody. I rather be called "American" because that is what we are. We are all apart of the human race, so type casting people by their race is unfair and creates separation. But if I have to choose African-American is much better, just don't call me the N word or another derogatory term.

Well...very few people have BLACK skin just like I don't have WHITE skin and not all so called "black" people are from Africa so AFRICAN AMERICAN doesn't really work either.
I personally believe that if you were born in this country you are an AMERICAN...period. If you came from another country and became an American citizen then you could choose to call yourself either an American or, for example, an Italian American.
Just my two cents...

I say call me by my name. I 'd rather be known for me than my color but since I do not know very much about my african roots( my family does not have that info so therefore I don't). I know about some of cultures in my family so I don't consider being confortable with Afircan - American.

Technically, I'm brown, but I don't mind African-American....or 'black'...
People(non-blacks) tend to use the term African-American for those who are not even American.....
I guess it depends on the person, I guess...('Black' people, my people, are not monolithic).
However...
Just don't call me a n*gger or n*gga....

Why can't we be friends?

I know I'm not Black or anything, but I think "Black" sounds way better. I'm European - American but I just say "White" or "American". Easier and sounds better.
