Imagination is always important. More so in philosophy than in logic but a creative mind, the ability to think outside the box, to see unique perspectives is always an asset, whatever field you are in.

In philosophy and logic, imagination really comes in handy when trying to explain a theory.
A really imaginative philospher comes up with good examples or hypotheticals to explain or support his theory. They help people to more easily understand the concepts.

Yes, imagination is important. Someone needs to imagine a theory or concept before he/she can put it into words.
My analysis is that the body has sense, imagination, reasoning, and intelligence, with intelligence at the top.
So intelligence is higher than reasoning, reasoning is higher than imagination, and imagination if higher than senses.
Senses feel matter. Imagination analyzes sense perception independent of matter (i.e. imagining something that's not really there), and reasoning analyzes the universe sense of an object (i.e. fire is always hot) where as intelligence is the all-encompassing capacity of mind that forms judgments and opinions (i.e. don't touch fire).
What is interesting is that if intelligence is the highest, it must contain the lower stages of thought. So any intelligent thought has in it reasons, imaginations, and sense-perceptions in it.

When scientists want to prove something, they think of what they want to prove. From there, they experiment until they reach a conclusion.
If you don't have a destination in mind, then why have a map?
It's the same with philosophy, if you can't think of somehting really out there (or so bloody close we can't see it hiding under our nose) you won't ever think of something new.
